'Soundless' director Hong Eui-jung's new film 'Boksugwi' (produced by Louis Pictures | provided by Solair Partners by K-Wave Media | co-provide/distribute: kt StudioGini, working title) completed a diverse casting lineup and began shooting on Nov. 17.
The film 'Boksugwi' (working title) tells the story of Yun-ha, who became a ghost after an unjust death, and teams up with a dokkaebi who has dreamed of becoming human for 400 years to save her endangered younger sibling.
Hong Eui-jung, whose feature debut 'Soundless' won critical acclaim for its distinctive mise-en-scène, shocking story and stylish direction and earned the Blue Dragon Film Awards and the Baeksang Arts Awards rookie director prize, confirmed the cast for her new film 'Boksugwi' (working title) and began principal photography on Monday, Nov. 17.
Kim Yoo-jung, who established herself as a representative young actor in her 20s by showing various genres and characters in Dear X, My Demon, 20th Century Girl and Love in the Moonlight, takes on the role of Yun-ha, a ghost who met an unjust death in an accident but cannot leave the world and struggles to save her young sibling, promising a fresh transformation. Park Ji-hwan, loved nationwide for his role as Jang I-soo in The Outlaws and who delivered distinctive performances in The Murky Stream and Our Blues, plays the dokkaebi who has dreamed of becoming human for 400 years, arousing curiosity. He will share unexpected chemistry with Yun-ha, who awakened him from his seal. Veteran actor Jo Yeo-jeong, who has led Korean cinema with a wide acting spectrum in Murderer Report, My Daughter is a Zombie, Hidden Face and Parasite, joins the cast as the shaman Ju-bo, who chases the ghost Yun-ha, injecting tension into the film as a strong character connecting the living and the dead.
Ji Il-joo, who has built a solid filmography across film, drama and theater, seasoned actor Yoo Jae-myung, reunited with director Hong Eui-jung after Soundless, and multitalented performer Baek Hyun-jin, active in music, acting, art and recently the variety show Office Workers, have joined to complete a diverse casting lineup.
Meanwhile, Boksugwi (working title) is mainly financed by Solair Partners, a culture-content specialist investment firm with assets under management of 145.5 billion won that has shown high returns by making main investments in films such as Sleep and Pilot and investing in numerous commercial films including 12.12: The Day and Exhuma. It is also the first original project in which kt StudioGini, which has declared a full-scale entry into the film business, fully participates from co-provision to distribution and marketing. Starting with Boksugwi (working title), kt StudioGini plans to discover original films that will bring a fresh wind to the market and, as the company with the largest scale of integrated rights ownership in Korea, develop various business structures encompassing investment, distribution and marketing based on its distribution capabilities.
