Yeong-cheol and Yeong-ja, 28th season contestants of I'm SOLO, who received many congratulations for a premarital pregnancy, delivered news of a missed miscarriage, drawing sympathy.
On the 17th, a video titled "The first ob-gyn visit the two went to together! But..." was uploaded to the Chonjang Entertainment TV channel.
That day, 28th season contestants Yeong-cheol and Yeong-ja visited an obstetrics and gynecology clinic for a checkup. Yeong-cheol worried, "After going to the emergency room the other day, I think I thought, 'Ah I need to be careful and rest,'" and Yeong-ja explained, "Yesterday I suddenly had vaginal bleeding."
Yeong-cheol said, "I had tests and fortunately they said there was no major problem," and Yeong-ja confessed, "Yesterday we were both really shocked. I was very anxious." Yeong-cheol added, "Because the body age has changed a bit, I think we're trying to be careful."
But shortly after, the doctor checking the fetus in the ultrasound room cautiously asked, "The baby doesn't look too well right now; can I continue filming?" and then said, "I think you should wait outside." After asking the production staff to leave, the doctor explained, "It looks like it stopped growing at about eight weeks. The important thing is that the heart is not beating right now. We call this a missed miscarriage."
Upon hearing the results, Yeong-ja and Yeong-cheol appeared somewhat stunned. Yeong-ja said, "Because it was early, we remained cautious. But we would have accepted it anyway...," and the doctor comforted them, "This is more likely due to age-related decline in egg quality from the ovaries leading to chromosomal abnormalities and an increased miscarriage rate, rather than anything the mother did wrong. It would be best to resolve it within this week. Everyone was happy about the pregnancy, so it's very regrettable that this happened, but take care of it well so it won't cause problems for future pregnancies."
After setting the procedure date, Yeong-ja said, "I'm really in shock... I don't know what to do," and Yeong-cheol comforted her, "As long as you're okay. You're first," adding, "It's not your fault. It's okay."
Yeong-ja said, "What can I do? When I went to the hospital yesterday the size was over nine weeks. I thought, 'This is strange,' and it seems to have stopped since last week. I don't know where it went wrong," and Yeong-cheol reassured her, "No. It's natural, so you don't need to worry so much. It's okay. You and I just need to live well together."
In a later interview, Yeong-cheol said, "The baby wasn't something we engineered to have; I thought it was a blessing given from above. Honestly, I was so happy when I found out about the pregnancy. I was so curious about the child between Yeong-ja and me. It felt like we unexpectedly received such a big gift, so I was very happy. But I was worried, given my age," and added, "A child is a wonderful thing, but Yeong-ja is my first priority. Whatever happens, Yeong-ja's safety and health come first, so I hope the surgery goes well and she recovers healthily."
Trying to act unaffected, Yeong-cheol eventually could not hold back his tears and bowed his head. Yeong-ja also choked up and said, "I cried a lot yesterday. He kept apologizing to me. I told him it was okay," her eyes reddening.
He said, "The doctor at the hospital told us it's not that either of them did something wrong; the fetus just didn't develop. It stopped there. So the size was small, the heart wasn't beating, and it became nothing. He told us many people experience this early on, so don't blame yourselves too much," and Yeong-cheol said, "As the doctor said, it's not our fault; it's something that can happen naturally and can happen to anyone in life." Yeong-ja added, "We decided to take it calmly and move on."
In particular, Yeong-cheol sincerely said, "In the past, Yeong-ja must have gone through all hardships alone, but now that I'm by her side during difficult times like this, I want her not to worry and to trust me. I'll protect you for life; that won't change, so trust me and hold on tight," and Yeong-ja said, "There will be many things to live through in the future. There's no guarantee only good things will happen. Through this opportunity, we decided to become stronger and to find gratitude even here."
Meanwhile, 28th season contestants Yeong-ja and Yeong-cheol appeared as participants in the I'm SOLO divorced singles special on SBS Plus and ENA, each with one child. The two developed into the final couple on the show and continued as a real-life couple, and they are due to marry in January next year.<
