Review: This is a review article written after watching the broadcast.
Although Yu Jae-seok lost two colleagues in a short time, his role as a center of variety shows still appears unshaken. Rather, on the program "Whenever Possible 4" returning for a new season, he even showed a heartwarming side, praising junior Yoo Yeon-seok as "good in the industry."
On the first broadcast of SBS variety show 'Whenever Possible season 4' aired on the 15th, Yu Jae-seok and Yoo Yeon-seok opened season 4. The two greeted viewers warmly, saying, "It feels like 'they really come back whenever possible'" as they opened the show as if blending in, and from the start they brought laughter with their characteristic back-and-forth banter over a single outfit.
When it was mentioned that the recording took place in October, Yu Jae-seok explained, "It will be cold around December when the show airs," adding, "there is no filming in November after the October recording." The reason was Yoo Yeon-seok's South American fan meeting tour. Yoo Yeon-seok said, "After 'When the Phone Rings' aired, many fans appeared in South America, so I'm going," revealing that he gained enough popularity to hold group viewings locally, and Yu Jae-seok jokingly bowed and said, "Anyway, we can't record in November." When Yoo Yeon-seok asked, "Aren't you busy too?" Yu Jae-seok firmly replied, "I'm fine to record. It's that you won't be able to because you're going to South America," drawing laughter.
When Yoo Yeon-seok said, "Then let's go together," Yu Jae-seok acknowledged, "There is no one waiting for me," saying that South American fans are all Yoo Yeon-seok's fans, and Yoo Yeon-seok playfully responded, "Then please say hello once."
Next, actors Lee Je-hoon and Pyo Ye-jin appeared as the first "Whenever Possible friends" of season 4. The two are currently active in 'Taxi Driver 3.' Yu Jae-seok congratulated the production team and actors, saying, "In these times, a terrestrial drama reaching season 3 is truly remarkable." In this process, when Yoo Yeon-seok said, "I happened to see the 'Taxi Driver 3' teaser video," Yu Jae-seok laughed and said, "Yeon-seok goes around confidently promoting himself like this. There's a reason he survives in the industry. He's very good at networking everywhere," lightheartedly evaluating his junior's "survival strategy." Although said jokingly, it naturally highlighted Yoo Yeon-seok's role of looking after both the industry and colleagues.
Recently Yu Jae-seok has faced considerable changes in the variety show world. Lee Yi-kyung left MBC's 'Hangout With Yoo,' and Jo Sae-ho stepped down one after another from tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block' and KBS2's '2 Days & 1 Night season 4.'
Lee Yi-kyung left 'Hangout With Yoo' after being embroiled in personal life rumors, and later caused another controversy by saying that the production team suggested he step down first. Jo Sae-ho also chose to resign voluntarily, saying, "I don't want to burden viewers and the production team," after allegations of ties to organized crime and allegations of accepting money surfaced. With Jo Sae-ho's departure, 'You Quiz on the Block' will continue recording for the time being with Yu Jae-seok as the sole MC, and a successor MC is under discussion.
But amid the changes, attention naturally turned to "who is Yu Jae-seok's right-hand man." However, judging only by the appearance shown on 'Whenever Possible season 4,' the answer seems to have already emerged. Yu Jae-seok's banter is a given, and Yoo Yeon-seok's presence, which reads both the on-site atmosphere and industry trends, naturally filled the center. That's why the reunited chemistry of Yu Jae-seok and Yoo Yeon-seok remains eagerly anticipated.
Meanwhile, SBS variety program "Whenever Possible," (directed by Choi Bo-pil, writer Chae Jin-ah) is a variety show that gifts luck in the brief spare moments encountered in daily life through a "spare-time strategy," and 'Whenever Possible,' which returned last summer for season 3, led strong popularity by ranking No. 1 in its time slot throughout its run, as well as No. 1 in 2049 viewership among variety shows and dramas overall.
In particular, the rating for episode 35, the final broadcast of the previous season, recorded 5.1% in households in the Seoul metropolitan area, 4.5% nationwide, and 1.5% in 2049, securing No. 1 in 2049 and metropolitan household ratings in its time slot as well as No. 1 in 2049 ratings among all Tuesday variety shows, and with the greeting "Season 4 is no problem. See you soon," they promised the next meeting.
