Girl group Oh My Girl member YooA challenged herself with the film "Project Y" and shared her thoughts alongside actresses Han So-hee and Jeon Jong-seo.
On the afternoon of the 16th, at Megabox COEX in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, a production briefing for the film "Project Y" was held. Present at the event were the film's leads Han So-hee, Jeon Jong-seo, Kim Shin-rok, Jung Young-joo, Lee Jae-gyun, YooA (Oh My Girl) and director Lee Hwan, who, under Jaejae's moderation, discussed the film.
"Project Y" is a film that tells the story of Miseon (Han So-hee) and Dogyung (Jeon Jong-seo), who dreamed of a different tomorrow while living in the middle of a dazzling city and, at the brink of their lives, steal black money and gold bullion. Adding to this is girl group Oh My Girl member YooA, whose fresh and diverse casting has raised expectations. She joins as Ha-kyung, the wife of boss To (Kim Sung-cheol), who holds information that shakes everything, adding fun with charming characters.
YooA said, "First, I heard news about So-hee and Jong-seo unnie, whom I like very much, through the media and was curious. I was期待 that these two would come together, but I didn't think the opportunity would come to me. But the director said he needed a fresh sense of betrayal and offered me the role, so I participated."
She went on to awkwardly say about the character, "Ha-kyung is a married woman. It's my first time acting as a married woman," and added, "She is the character who becomes the starting point for Dogyung and Miseon's project to steal black money," sparking curiosity.
Director Lee Hwan said about YooA's casting, "I don't know idols very well, but I happened to see her on TV a few times. I thought this character should be played by an actor who could deliver a good sense of betrayal, and at the moment I wondered if she would take the role. I decided to act crazy and go for it. We had a meeting, I showed her the script and we talked, and fortunately she readily liked it, so I'm honored we could work together on this project. I think I'm a bit lucky," he said with a laugh.
YooA said, "I liked Han So-hee and Jeon Jong-seo unnie very much. Seeing them in person, they were so beautiful, and I was very nervous because I have overlapping scenes with actor Jong-seo, but seeing how Jong-seo wraps her scenes, I realized that's how an actor does it and that idols and this are different. I thought I wanted to become that kind of actor. Also, when I visited the set, So-hee unnie approached me first and started chatting, saying, 'Seeing that you chose this, you must not be ordinary either.' I think I'm also a person with a lot of good fortune," she said, laughing.
"Project Y" opens on Jan. 21, 2026.
