MBC daily drama "The First Man" captivated living rooms at once with dopamine-inducing charm and intense immersion from its first broadcast.
The first episode of MBC daily drama "The First Man," which aired on the 15th, (planned by Jang Jae-hoon, directed by Kang Tae-heum, written by Seo Hyun-joo and Ahn Jin-young) announced the prelude to a 30-year tragedy that blows through like a storm and pulled viewers completely into the drama. From the shocking premise of two women pregnant with the heir to Dream Group to chilling incidents caused by love, betrayal and twisted desires, a tumultuous story with unpredictable turns unfolded relentlessly, delivering a time-flying appeal.
The episode began with a happy moment in the past, 1995, showing Dream Group heir Ma Dong-seok (played by Kim Young-pil) and orphan Jeong Sook-hee (played by Jung So-young). Despite the stubborn opposition of his father, Dream Group chairman Ma (played by Lee Hyo-jung), Dong-seok did not waver in his intention to marry and vowed his unchanging love to Sook-hee. But their love did not last long. Talent Chae Hwa-young (played by Oh Hyun-kyung), who dreamed of entering Dream Group by marrying Dong-seok, sparked pregnancy rumors after retching at an awards ceremony, and a scandal broke when an article headlined "Dream heir Ma Dong-seok and marriage countdown" was published. Dong-seok denied it, saying it absolutely wasn't true, but Hwa-young insisted that after a company dinner when she was drunk he had taken her home and declared, "I am going to be Mr. Dong-seok's wife."
As Hwa-young began to reveal her own desires, tragedy also began to descend. Sook-hee had also confirmed that she was eight weeks pregnant. The scene in which Sook-hee, having learned she was carrying Dong-seok's child, saw the newspaper article and wept in betrayal evoked viewers' sympathy. Dong-seok dismissed Hwa-young's claim and searched for Sook-hee, but she had already left. Ultimately, Chairman Ma sent Dong-seok to the French branch to suppress the scandal, and soon news of Dong-seok's disappearance at sea near Monaco was reported in a breaking news bulletin, shocking everyone.
Afterward, Hwa-young went to Chairman Ma and declared, "I will give birth and prove that the child is Mr. Dong-seok's," showing her determination to seize the position of Dream Group daughter-in-law. At that moment, Hwa-young, who had come to Chairman Ma's house to check on Dong-seok's life, spotted Sook-hee and immediately realized she was pregnant with Dong-seok's child. After following her and finding where Sook-hee lived, Hwa-young watched from afar and had a horrifying thought, "Yes, push her with the car. Then the child and that woman...," a scene that showed how chilling and dangerous her desire and obsession were.
Above all, the episode 1 ending left a strong aftertaste by sharply contrasting the dramatic fates of the two women. After showing Sook-hee smiling happily as she felt the twins' movements, Hwa-young, who had been following her, ultimately fell down the stairs, clutching her stomach and screaming, "No, my baby," heightening curiosity about the two women's fates. Viewers are pouring expectations and interest into episode 2, which airs today (the 16th), wondering what outcome Hwa-young's crisis will bring and what fate awaits Sook-hee, who is pregnant with twins.
