With only one day left until its release and more than 400,000 advance tickets sold, the film Avatar: Fire and Ash (original title: Avatar: Fire and Ash, director: James Cameron, hereafter "Avatar 3") — which has drawn exceptional attention — has revealed three key story points that will pique prospective viewers' curiosity.
The first story point is that a crack forms in the once-solid Sully family. In the previous Avatar: The Way of Water, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) fell into deep grief after losing their eldest son Netyeyam while fighting RDA. Afterwards, Jake Sully, who becomes more determined than ever to protect his family, and Neytiri, whose long-held beliefs begin to waver, show a precarious side never seen before. In particular, the two display different and complicated feelings toward the human boy Spider (Jack Champion) because of their son's death, and the friction that results with the remaining children is portrayed in this film, offering a deeper look into the Sully family.
Director James Cameron said, "A story everyone around the world can relate to. Not only an adventure into a fantastical world but also a human story about the heart," noting that the Sully family's crisis and change is a story that all generations can empathize with. Amid constant external attacks and internal fractures, curiosity grows over how the Sully family will overcome this enormous crisis. And finally, there is heightened interest in what decision the Sully family will make when faced with the crossroads of choice.
The second story point is the appearance of the biggest enemy in the series' history. Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) has been a relentless antagonist who pursued the Sully family fiercely in Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water, creating a powerful presence throughout the series and heightening the tension. In this Avatar 3, Colonel Miles Quaritch joins forces with the ash tribe leader Baran (Una Chaplin), tightening the noose around the Sully family's necks even further.
The ash tribe is a group that lost its home to volcanic eruptions and came to venerate "fire," which it sees as sacred after hating Eywa and having everything taken from them. After aligning with Colonel Quaritch and acquiring RDA's formidable new weaponry, they go on an even greater rampage to shake Pandora. Though the alliance was formed so each could achieve their own aims, the meeting of these two will present the series' greatest threat.
The third story point is the growth of the next generation who will protect Pandora — the Sully family's children — and the revealing of their special secrets amid a massive battle. Facing the worst crisis under the combined assault of RDA and Baran, the Sully family encounters shocking events. The human boy Spider, who could not breathe on Pandora without a mask, is now able to breathe without one. This becomes another threat that could engulf Pandora, and as everyone faces an unforeseen event, some rejoice while others fall into deep worry.
Moreover, Lo'ak (Britain Dalton), who carried guilt over his brother's death, and Kiri (Sigourney Weaver), who has long wondered about her reason for existing and a mysterious power she does not fully understand, will show growth as they get through the crisis. The youngest, Tuk (Trinity Bliss), also declared, "The Sully family never gives up," foreshadowing remarkable action. The four children who will become the next generation of the Avatar series must not be missed for the changes they will show in this film.
Avatar 3 tells the story of a greater crisis unfolding on Pandora, covered in fire and ash, when the ash tribe led by Baran appears before the Sully family, who are grieving after the death of Jake and Neytiri's eldest son Netyeyam. The third installment of the Avatar series — which drew 13.62 million domestic viewers and achieved global box office success with Avatar — will have its world premiere tomorrow (the 17th, Wednesday).<
