Comedian Hong Yun-hwa and her husband Kim Min-gi recalled past times when they overcame difficult periods together.
On the morning of the 16th, the Tuesday guest segment of KBS1's Morning Yard featured comedian couple Hong Yun-hwa and Kim Min-gi as guests.
That day Um Ji-in said of Kim Min-gi, "He is the Choi Soo-jong of the comedy world, the king of events, and a great romantic; there are many rumors," and Kim Min-gi honestly confessed, "Those titles are so grand that sometimes I become more careful because of them. It's very burdensome."
In response, Hong Yun-hwa boasted, "Oppa is basically very thoughtful. When we were dating, he would pass by and say 'you're pretty,' then if he didn't have money he would think 'never mind' and remember it and buy it later. One day he would suddenly and casually give me a gift. If he saw a pretty flower while passing by, he would secretly buy it and give it to me. He is always thoughtful. Even now he does that without me saying anything. When I don't put on my sneakers, oppa always does it for me. We've been married seven years, almost entering the eighth year. Oppa treats me like his daughter."
Kim Min-gi said of Hong Yun-hwa, "She is very playful. Outside, Yun-hwa is shy so when I hold her she says 'oppa!' but as soon as we get home she clings to me. They are almost always attached. She shows a lot of aegyo and I practically melt. When we're at home," he said, creating a warm moment.
One reason they are considered an "inseparable couple" is that they endured hard times together and grew because of them. Hong Yun-hwa said, "We get asked that a lot. People ask if we could go back to the old days, when was the best time, and no matter how I think about it, today is better than yesterday and tomorrow will likely be better than today; we live that kind of life together."
She said, "Oppa had 10,000 won in his entire fortune and I had 5,000 won when we met. I was 23 and oppa was 28, so we had no money. I was filming a sitcom then, and I was the youngest with poor conditions, so no matter how much I worked I had no money. It was midwinter and everyone else wore long padded coats, but they were expensive so I couldn't buy one and I was freezing. Oppa then had a total fortune of 30,000 won or 20,000 won, and there was a used clothing shop in Daehangno where he bought a long padded coat for 20,000 or 30,000 won, and I wore that. I wore it for two years. It was very warm," she recounted.
Kim Min-gi said, "We really went through a lot. We had so little money that dates meant walking each other home. We couldn't afford to eat at a restaurant or have a drink or buy even one fried chicken, so we just walked each other home. We did nothing but go back and forth. I felt so sorry. Those feelings are still very strong now," he said, sharing his upset feelings. But Hong Yun-hwa moved the audience by saying, "But at that time he gave me his entire fortune. Oppa is someone whose sincerity really comes through."
