Actor the late Kim Sung-ok left us three years ago.
Dec. 16, 2025, is the third anniversary of actor Kim Sung-ok's death. The deceased passed away on Dec. 16, 2022, at the age of 87.
In 1956, Kim Sung-ok began performing on stage as a supporting actor in the changgeuk 'Jeokbyeokga' and in 1960 began her path as a stage actress with the play "Class." In 1963, he directed the play "Hwarangdo" and worked as a director, and in 1966 he made his film debut as an extra in the movie "Yeraishang."
In 1968, Kim Sung-ok, who was selected as a specially hired talent by TBC Tongyang Broadcasting, began working as a TV drama actor and appeared in about 100 plays including 'Manseon', 'Waiting for Godot', 'Henry VIII and His Lovers', 'Antigone', 'Hamlet' and 'The Merchant of Venice.' The deceased also appeared in about 300 dramas and films such as "Taejo Wanggeon", "The King and the Queen", "Living in the Sky", "Wrecked Ship" and "Returned Dear One", and won the Dong-A Theater Award for acting twice, in 1966 and 1973.
Kim Sung-ok was active not only as an actor but also as a founding member of the theater troupe Sanha, the experimental theater, and Sanwoollim, and as a founding member of the National Theater Company. She served as head of the theater company Sinhyeop, and from 1999 she was an invited professor in the department of theater and film at Woosuk University, and from 2009 she worked as artistic director of the Mokpo municipal theater company, dedicating herself to training the next generation.
After Kim Sung-ok's passing, the late Lee Soon-jae also expressed his longing for her. When Lee Soon-jae appeared on "You Quiz on the Block," he said, "When TBC started, the male actors who were with me included six people including the deceased (Oh Hyun-kyung)," and he told the first to pass away, Lee Nak-hoon, Kim Dong-hoon, Kim Sung-ok and Kim Soon-chul, "I'll be going soon too, so let's go and meet again."
Meanwhile, Kim Sung-ok was married to actor Son Sook, who served as the sixth minister of environment. Her granddaughter is Korean-Australian actress Ha Ye-rin.
