Actor Kang Hyeong-seok announced the birth of the lovable Hwang Jun-woo character with distinctive comic acting in the tvN weekend drama PROBONO.
On the broadcasts of tvN weekend drama PROBONO (written by Moon Yoo-seok, directed by Kim Seong-yoon) on the 13th and 14th, episodes 3 and 4 fully revealed Jun-woo's side as a "Kang Da-wit fanboy" who is head over heels for anything Kang Da-wit says.
That day, Kang Hyeong-seok drew laughs from viewers with Jun-woo showering praise at Kang Da-wit (played by Jung Kyung-ho) as he went to work, saying, "I watched the news yesterday. You were really cool!" Jun-woo spilled admiration at every word from Da-wit, revealing an undeniable fan devotion, and the excitement of working with his role model came through intact. Jun-woo's reactions, imbued with innocence, added a peculiar cuteness and injected energy into the drama.
Meanwhile, Jun-woo's unexpected sincerity, which had seemed selfish, was also portrayed. Jun-woo sympathized with Da-wit's remark that he felt discomfort after handling a case of a client who had been poor and struggling, and honestly confessed, "So if possible I want to take cases of people who have money and power. That would probably make me feel more comfortable." It was a moment when his timid and delicate inner self surfaced, contrary to the grand ambition he had shown before.
On top of that, Jun-woo lightened the mood with the cheeky joke, "I'd make good money too," adding to the laughter. Kang Hyeong-seok convincingly portrayed a character that carried both comic and poignant tones through emotional switch acting that naturally moved between contrasting feelings. In addition, he drew viewers' empathy by showing a thoroughly realistic lawyer who dreams of flashy success but worries when faced with an uncomfortable reality.
Also, after Jun-woo had drinks with Da-wit, the scene in which he approached without hesitation, saying, "Thanks. Hyungnim! Please come in!" exploded with their uniquely slick chemistry and completed one of the show's comedic beats. Through Hwang Jun-woo, who embodies both honesty and innocence, Kang Hyeong-seok showed the archetype of a "must-see" character.
In episode 4 Jun-woo once again brought laughs by providing a clue to solving the case without even realizing it. Mentioning the "suicide hotline" on the Hangang Bridge became the decisive clue, but Jun-woo himself was completely oblivious to it and appeared bewildered, revealing his bumbling charm. This scene instantly engraved the appeal of the Hwang Jun-woo character and raised anticipation for Kang Hyeong-seok's upcoming "funny underdog" performance.
