Singer MC Mong (birth name Shin Dong-hyun) publicly backed comedian Park Na-rae, who recently drew controversy over power abuse and illegal medical treatment, saying "public officials go to work the next day even if they cause a scandal," then switched the post to private.
According to the entertainment industry on the 15th, MC Mong wrote on his social media (SNS) account the previous day, "People watched Park Na-rae's variety shows and laughed, saying they liked them at the time, but when it became controversial, they put out posts as if they had predicted it. I wonder if that's something a decent human XX would do," adding, "It's really too much."
He said, "I won't say who. The little fortune-teller from 'Star King' who threw a line at me seemed to divine the future to make money, and the father said, 'Please understand, it was just a joke,'" adding, "But that one thing made me suffer for years, unable even to get back up."
In 2008, MC Mong became a hot topic after being told by a child shaman who appeared on SBS variety show Star King, "You've committed a mortal sin." The child shaman's words were revisited after MC Mong became entangled in the so-called draft-dodging scandal over allegations he received an exemption through "intentional tooth extraction."
MC Mong also said, "Celebrities who step down, please don't hide if you did something wrong," and "If you deserve to be scolded, take it head-on." He added, "Public officials go to work the next day even after causing a scandal, so if getting scolded would suffice, by what right do people try to take away someone's job?"
He also criticized Lee Hyori and Yang Se-chan, who had revealed Park Na-rae's drinking habits on past variety shows, saying, "Hyori (Lee Hyori) and Yang Se-chan only said things that would be tossed as private jokes with Park Na-rae. Why can't people speak and why do they have to read the room?"
MC Mong then advised Park Na-rae, "Reach a sincere settlement with your managers. Even if you have something to apologize for, even if there's something unfair, it's already too late," and "Don't hide. If you're going to be scolded, be scolded, but don't hide forever like me. Please make people laugh even more."
Recently, Park Na-rae was accused of power abuse by former managers. The power abuse allegations expanded as they morphed into claims that Park Na-rae received proxy prescriptions and illegal medical procedures from an unlicensed practitioner known as the "injection auntie," and Park Na-rae announced a halt to her broadcasting activities.
Currently, Park Na-rae's former managers have filed a complaint accusing her of defamation by stating false facts and violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, while alleging proxy prescriptions, workplace bullying, and unpaid operating expenses. Park Na-rae filed a countersuit against the former managers on charges of blackmail.
Meanwhile, after MC Mong's post drew attention, he set the post to private or deleted it.
