Actor Kim Hee-jeong moved viewers to tears with overwhelming emotional acting.
Kim Hee-jeong played the central role in the drama by realistically portraying Da-jeong, who fell into unexpected shock and sorrow after suddenly losing her mother-in-law in a traffic accident and suffering a concussion herself. In particular, she drew attention by deeply expressing the image of a mother and wife who tries to hold the family together even amid trials.
In the 37th episode of KBS2's Our Golden Days that aired on the 13th, Kim Da-jeong lay in bed with a bandage on a scrape on her forehead and sobbed blankly; medical staff diagnosed that she needed absolute rest due to aftereffects of a concussion, she cried in the emergency room, and her sincere expression and tearful acting conveyed the harrowing situation and immersed viewers.
Then Kim Da-jeong's screaming in front of her mother-in-law's death pierced viewers' hearts. She confessed that just before the accident her mother-in-law had said to go to the department store to buy her clothes and showed self-blame, and Kim Hee-jeong's wailing performance, shouting "Was I crazy, why did I follow her there," fully revealed the complex feelings mixing affection and remorse toward her mother-in-law.
Da-jeong's maternal love and warm heart toward her family also resonated with viewers. Her son Ji-hyeok (played by Jung Il-woo), who came to the emergency room, hugged Da-jeong and expressed relief that she was alive, and Kim Da-jeong put family first by worrying about Sang-chul's (played by Cheon Ho-jin) safety and urging, "Take good care of father, Ji-hyeok," maintaining her role as the family's pillar.
In the 38th episode that aired on the 14th, Da-jeong's efforts to watch over the process of her husband's and son's long-standing conflict being resolved stood out. Da-jeong cried as she listened to the reconciliation between her husband Sang-chul and son Ji-hyeok in front of her mother-in-law's room, and after learning the knot in the father-son relationship that had not been untied for a long time, she left a meaningful line, "It seems grandmother wanted to reconcile them when she left."
Even in sorrow, Da-jeong's efforts to protect her family's daily life provided viewers with quiet emotion. She knocked on the door of her mother-in-law's room, which had been firmly closed, saying she would cook ramen, and eased the atmosphere by dining with the family gathered for the first time in a while. In particular, the scene where she talks with her husband about the mature generation (the last generation to care for parents and the first generation not to be supported by their children) was enough to form a realistic sense of empathy.
Meanwhile, actor Kim Hee-jeong, who perfectly embodies the character Kim Da-jeong who steadfastly holds the family center despite experiencing events with large emotional swings, can be seen in her passionate performances in the remaining episodes every Saturday and Sunday at 8 p.m. on KBS 2TV.
