"Moon River" in which Kang Tae-oh and Kim Se-jeong found Jin-gu's weakness.
On Oct. 13, episode 12 of MBC's Friday-Saturday drama "Moon River" (written by Jo Seung-hee. directed by Lee Dong-hyun, abbreviated "Moon River") shocked viewers as the truth of the Gyesanyeon incident and the revenge plan of left state councilor Kim Han-cheol (played by Jin-gu), who wanted to destroy the royal family, were unveiled. The episode recorded nationwide ratings of 5.7% and 5.1% in the Seoul metropolitan area, and the scene in which Lee Gang (Kang Tae-oh) and Lee Un (Lee Shin-young) go together to the Mu-myungdan mountain retreat rose to a peak of 6%. When Kim Han-cheol realized that Park Dal-yi (played by Kim Se-jeong) was the crown princess Kang Yeon-wol, he took Park Dal-yi's family hostage to force her to reveal her identity. Unable to abandon those who had cared for her like family over the years, Park Dal-yi eventually confessed, as Kim Han-cheol intended, that she was the deposed consort Kang, and pressured by the ministers, King Lee Hee (played by Kim Nam-hee) ordered Park Dal-yi's execution.
News that Park Dal-yi was the deposed crown princess and had been arrested spread quickly throughout the palace. Lee Gang, who insisted on Park Dal-yi's innocence, was also confined to the East Palace, and secret moves led by Lee Gang to rescue Park Dal-yi from the palace began, raising the tension.
Before Park Dal-yi was arrested, Lee Gang, who had coordinated the plan in advance, went to King Lee Hee and told him that left state councilor Kim Han-cheol was raising soldiers at the mountain retreat, asking for help to capture them. Fearing he could lose his son and daughter-in-law and refusing to be further manipulated by the left state councilor, Lee Hee assisted Lee Gang and Park Dal-yi in escaping the palace, adding reassurance.
Also joining the plan were Prince Jeun Daegun Lee Un and his lover Kim Woo-hee (played by Hong Soo-joo), who shared Lee Gang's intent. While Lee Un bought time, Kim Woo-hee swapped clothes with Park Dal-yi, who was confined in the prison chamber, and helped her escape, and Kim Han-cheol, completely fooled by the four youths' "human three-card monte," frantically went searching for Park Dal-yi.
Above all, Kim Han-cheol had a decisive reason to capture Park Dal-yi: he believed that Park Dal-yi, the crown princess Kang Yeon-wol, had noticed the secret of the Gamaksan mountain retreat where Kim Han-cheol's associates Mu-myungdan lived. Park Dal-yi, recalling a woman in a white jeogori she had accidentally met at Gamaksan when she was crown princess, suspected a connection to Kim Han-cheol and headed to Gamaksan with Lee Gang.
But Kim Han-cheol's followers had already stationed themselves across the eight provinces. If they were captured, not only Park Dal-yi's life but Lee Gang's revenge could be ruined, so Lee Gang and Park Dal-yi switched bodies to carry out what each had to do. Park Dal-yi's spirit, in Lee Gang's body returned to the palace, secretly conveyed the location of the Mu-myungdan mountain retreat, and Lee Gang, in Park Dal-yi's body, arrived at Gamaksan with Lee Un and began searching for Kim Han-cheol's secret.
In particular, it was revealed during this process why Kim Han-cheol became obsessed with power and sought to destroy the royal family, surprising everyone: Kim Han-cheol, who loved the deposed Queen Jangjeong (played by Jang Hee-jin), who was unjustly dethroned by the scheming Grand Queen Dowager Han (played by Nam Ki-ae), had planned revenge for her. It was even revealed that the queen, who was believed to have been executed, was hidden at the Gamaksan mountain retreat, doubling the shock.
Unaware of these facts, Lee Un, the son of Queen Jangjeong, encountered his longed-for mother in an unexpected place and froze on the spot. Whether Lee Gang and Park Dal-yi, and Lee Un and Kim Woo-hee can protect their lovers and reveal the truth to the world against Kim Han-cheol's relentless devotion is becoming a cliffhanger as the revenge plot reaches its climax.
Episode 13 of "Moon River," which continues the varied affections of five people caught in the whirlpool of fate, will air on Oct. 19 at 9:40 p.m.
