Um Ji-in of KBS2's 'The Boss's Ears Are Donkey Ears' visits the home of trot singer-songwriter Sul Woon-do to receive a singing test.
KBS 2TV's 'The Boss's Ears Are Donkey Ears' (directed by Choi Seung-hee, hereafter 'The Boss's Ears') is a program in which Korea's bosses voluntarily practice role reversal and self-reflection to create workplaces where people enjoy working. In the previous episode it recorded a peak audience rating of 5.8% and continued its unstoppable run as the No. 1 entertainment show in the same time slot for 183 consecutive weeks. (Nielsen Korea)
In episode 335 of 'The Boss's Ears,' airing today (14th), Um Ji-in, the MC of the audition 'Challenge the Stage of Dreams' that produced Lim Young-woong, directly enters the competition, and tone-deaf Um Ji-in asks Sul Woon-do, her morning show best friend, for help. Um Ji-in, Nam Hyun-jong and Kim Jin-woong receive blunt lessons from Sul Woon-do, who loves stones.
However, Um Ji-in chooses 'Like I've Been Shot' instead of a song by Sul Woon-do from the song selection, which reminds viewers of Sul Woon-do's style. Park Myung-soo says, "It sounds like you were hit by a missile," and advises, "There is no emotion in the singing," predicting a bleak day. Sul Woon-do then says, "It's uncomfortable to sing," giving an honest critique that makes Um Ji-in laugh.
Sul Woon-do says, "There is a recent hit song. Up down up down, it's 'Sang Hai'," recommending his own song 'The Twist of Love,' but as soon as Um Ji-in begins to sing, his face gradually hardens and he delivers a blunt comment: "I'm worried about the skill." Sul Woon-do continues, "It's regrettable. Currently it's at the bottom. If announcer Um Ji-in entrusted me with songs, it would require a considerable budget," issuing a pointed remark.
At Sul Woon-do's blunt remark, Jun Hyun-moo and Park Myung-soo clap loudly and cannot hold back their laughter. Eventually Sul Woon-do expresses puzzlement, "But why can't the announcer pronounce words?" In response, Um Ji-in sticks out her tongue to prove its length. Even Sul Woon-do is greatly surprised at the 13-centimeter length of Um Ji-in's tongue and exclaims, "The tongue is long."
As the announcer Um Ji-in's pronunciation difficulties unexpectedly continue, Kim Jin-woong, watching for an opening, says, "Excuse me, brother, but may I try once?" intercepting the opportunity and raising the tension.
Whether Um Ji-in, whose tongue is long but whose diction is poor, can be reborn as a disciple of Sul Woon-do, or whether she will lose the chance to junior Kim Jin-woong, who majored in classical singing, will be revealed in the broadcast of 'The Boss's Ears.'
Meanwhile, KBS 2TV's 'The Boss's Ears Are Donkey Ears' airs every Sunday at 4:40 p.m.
