Comedian Kim Su-yong conveyed his "miraculous condition" in a healthy and cheerful appearance.
Kim Su-yong candidly shared on the Oct. 10 episode of tvN You Quiz on the Block the urgent moments when he faced life and death, the recovery process, and his attitude toward life, delivering a deep resonance to viewers.
Standing healthy in front of the camera, Kim Su-yong recalled the offer to appear on You Quiz and joked, "I normally wouldn't do it, but I did because I had cardiac arrest," easing the mood. He went on to reveal for the first time on air about the day the accident occurred: "My chest felt tight and achy since the morning, but I brushed it off as nothing," he said. "I'm embarrassed to say this for the first time. At first I thought it was muscle pain and put on a pain relief patch," he explained about the unexpectedly unsettling situation that morning.
But the symptoms he had lightly dismissed quickly became serious. Collapsing from sudden cardiac arrest on set, Kim Su-yong lost consciousness, and Kim Sook's manager and actor Im Hyung-joon immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Even after the 119 ambulance crew arrived and used a defibrillator seven times, his heart would not come back easily. Kim Su-yong said the emergency measures continued for more than 20 minutes and that it was a situation in which he could have been taken to the morgue, conveying the urgency of the moment.
Kim Su-yong recalled, "Two ambulances came. My guardian had to be in the other vehicle. Kim Sook's manager got into the other vehicle," and added, "One ambulance broke down, but fortunately it was the one I wasn't in. Just that alone is divine luck."
After rapid emergency measures and responses, Kim Su-yong miraculously regained consciousness in the ambulance and said, "It felt muffled, as if submerged under water." He said he could faintly hear only the siren and the medical staff's questions, and that memories remained hazy, including being repeatedly disoriented by the question "Where is this?" and asking back, "Did I get into a traffic accident?"
He openly described the fear he felt when he first became aware of his condition in the intensive care unit. Kim Su-yong confessed, "When I came to, I felt the terror of 'so this is the intensive care unit,'" and realized the sudden threat of death. He added, "I thought sudden death could happen to me too," and said, "I was extremely, extremely lucky. Just waking up again is something to be thankful for."
At the end of the interview, Kim Su-yong expressed deep gratitude to those who saved him. "Thanks to Kim Sook, Im Hyung-joon, Kim Sook's manager, the 119 ambulance crew and the medical staff, I am here now," he said, adding, "I want to live healthily rather than live long. After experiencing cardiac arrest once, I'm even grateful to be alive and breathing," leaving a heartfelt reflection.
