'Radio Star' actor Heo Sung-tae expressed overwhelming emotion about the miracle of rising to a leading role.
On the 10th episode of the MBC variety show 'Radio Star', actors Heo Sung-tae and Shin Sung-rok appeared.
Actor Shin Sung-rok played a psychopath in the drama 'My Love from the Star', fidgeting with a ring and giving a cold expression that earned him the nickname 'KakaoTalk dog'. However, having now revealed a bright visage after laser hair removal and appearing younger, Shin Sung-rok received continuous praise from Kim Gook-jin, who said, "I didn't know Shin Sung-rok was this handsome. He's really handsome."
Shin Sung-rok said, "I'm preparing the musical 'The Man in hanbok'. Since K content is gaining popularity, I prepared this myself," and appeared wearing a royal robe to promote it.
Having also been active in musicals and plays, Shin Sung-rok said with a laugh about a performance mistake, "Jekyll and Hyde are two personalities. When I sing and another personality comes out, I can't recover. Even if I just change my breathing, the audience knows. When that mistake happened and my voice had already changed, I used my expression to go 'uaaaaa.'" Shin Sung-rok added, "When I was performing 'Rebecca' I was supposed to say 'that's Menderly,' but I said 'that's not Menderly.' So I just shouted 'Menderly!' again," showing a seasoned actor's way of handling it.
Then Heo Sung-tae said, "I graduated from Pusan National University with a degree in Russian language and literature, worked at LG Electronics, and then watched SBS's 'Miracle Audition' and came this far," adding, "Before that, I was just someone who liked watching other people's acting while watching the films 'Sunflower' and 'The Man from Nowhere.' I thought getting married early and giving grandchildren to my parents would be filial piety. But I heard there would be an audition held in Busan. So I tried. I was selected among 15 out of 800, and kept advancing through auditions," sharing his unique background.
Heo Sung-tae said, "I prepared by studying senior Choi Min-sik's acting, and I met senior Choi Min-sik in 'Big Bet.' I swore a lot as ad-lib, and senior Choi Min-sik said, 'Sung-tae, nice!' I got goosebumps," adding, "On the way from Mok-dong to Geoje, I braced myself to audition for five hours. I told them I would hand in my resignation and then told them I passed the audition. Fifteen days later I had to go to training camp, so I was going to attend an acting academy, and I just went," recounting a past when he pursued the dream of acting.
He said, "My mother beat me. She cried. In the meantime I showed her my acting. But she got angry," and "My older brother is 10 years older than me. He got angry at me, saying, 'I want to be a singer too, so should I quit my job and become a singer?'. Of course now everyone likes that I became an actor," and said he now has his family's support as he took a leading role and a positive part in the film 'The Informant', promoting it enthusiastically and receiving much applause.
