Nam Taehyun, who was indicted for drunk driving during a suspended sentence for drug use, admitted his charges.
On the morning of the 11th, Judge Heo Jun-seo, presiding over criminal division 11 at the Seoul Western District Court, opened Nam Taehyun's first court hearing on charges including violation of the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving).
Earlier, Nam Taehyun is accused of colliding with a central divider while attempting to pass a vehicle near Dongjak-daero on the Gangbyeonbuk-ro toward Ilsan on April 27. There were no casualties, and at the time Nam Taehyun's blood alcohol concentration was reported to be at or above the license revocation level of 0.08%. He was also driving at 182 km/h, far exceeding the road's maximum speed limit of 80 km/h.
The problem is that Nam Taehyun is serving a suspended sentence for drug use. Nam Taehyun was indicted on charges of taking methamphetamine with Seo Min-jae at the latter's home in Yongsan District, Seoul, in August 2022 and of taking methamphetamine alone overseas in December of the same year. The court later sentenced Nam Taehyun in January last year to one year in prison with a two-year suspended sentence.
When Nam Taehyun entered the courtroom, he appeared wearing a black mask and clothes with his bleached hair tied back. When the court asked about his occupation, Nam Taehyun attracted attention by answering, "I am currently a company employee." When asked whether he admitted all the charges in the indictment, he briefly replied, "Yes."
Meanwhile, this is Nam Taehyun's second drunk driving offense. He is accused of drunk driving at about 3:30 a.m. in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul, in March 2023. According to police, after drinking with acquaintances he called a designated driver, but while waiting he moved his car about 5 meters, which had been blocking his acquaintances' vehicles, and parked it again.
In the process, while opening his parked car door he collided with a passing taxi and damaged the taxi's right-side mirror, reaching a settlement. However, afterwards Nam Taehyun drove the vehicle himself, and a breathalyzer showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.114%, above the license suspension threshold. As a result, Nam Taehyun also received a summary order for a fine of 6 million won.
After committing a second drunk driving offense, Nam Taehyun's planned comeback in May fell through. Nam Taehyun was scheduled to perform at the music festival "K-pop Week in Hongdae," where he would have interacted with fans and pledged to reflect on his past and live a better life, but that appearance was abruptly canceled because of the drunk driving.
