Actor Kim Beom-rae makes a shocking transformation into a cross-dressing man.
The musical Sugar, in which Kim Beom-rae appears, opens tomorrow (the 12th) at the KEPCO Art Center Grand Theater. The musical Sugar is based on the classic comedy film Some Like It Hot, which has been loved around the world. Set in the Prohibition era of 1929, it cheerfully depicts the chaotic happenings that occur when two jazz musicians who accidentally witness a gangland murder disguise themselves as women and join an all-female band to save their lives.
Through Sugar, Kim Beom-rae returns to musicals after one year since last year's musical Bloody Love. Playing the pure and quirky bassist Jerry, he accidentally witnesses a crime scene with his colleague Jo and, to escape threats, transforms into a woman named Daphne and lives as a member of the band.
Earlier, through the official channel of the musical Sugar, Kim Beom-rae captured attention by flawlessly portraying the masculine Jerry and the alluring Daphne. His appearance showing graceful dance lines as Daphne foreshadowed the musical's cheerful and glamorous atmosphere and raised expectations.
The seasoned stage craftsman Kim Beom-rae's musical Sugar can be seen at the KEPCO Art Center from the 12th through Feb. 22 next year.
