(Interview ③ continued) EXO member and actor Doh Kyung Soo spoke about his feelings ahead of a full-group comeback as an idol.
On the afternoon of the 11th at a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, a wrap-up interview was held with Doh Kyung Soo, the lead actor of the Disney+ original drama The Manipulated.
The Manipulated is an action drama in which Tae-jung (played by Ji Chang Wook), who once lived an ordinary life, one day becomes unjustly embroiled in a brutal crime, is sent to prison, and then learns that everything was planned by Yohan (played by Doh Kyung Soo) and carries out revenge against him.
That day, when Doh Kyung Soo was asked about feedback from people around him such as Lee Kwang Soo and Kim Woo Bin who watched The Manipulated, he said, I was thankfully praised a lot. They said that when they see evil people they can tell at a glance who looks bad because of their tone or actions, but they saw those things in my performance differently. They said, It didn't look like a typical villain, and It's not easy to pull off but you expressed it well, and I felt proud, he said. When asked whether he sought advice from them about playing a villain, he said, I thought asking them would be a burden on them, so I didn't ask and thought about it a lot by myself.
Meanwhile, Doh Kyung Soo has been meeting EXO members frequently ahead of next year's full-group comeback. When asked whether members had said anything about the work, he answered honestly, The members haven't watched it yet. He said, I also tend not to watch when members' work comes out. It feels a bit like family acting. No member has done a genre work like The Manipulated, but if someone you've seen act so intensely next to you does a rom-com, I can't watch it. Maybe because of that, members don't seem to watch each other's works that attentively, he confessed.
He added, I haven't received any feedback yet, but they always watch short clips and cheer me on a lot, saying, It was so good. Lately we've been meeting a lot, and actually we were filming heavily until yesterday. We have a fan meeting this week and an awards show next week. Come to think of it, it's really been a long time. I think the last time we had a group stage was in 2018 before I went to the military. A few members were missing and we released new songs like Cream Soda maybe twice, but we haven't performed old songs like Growl, Call Me Baby, Monster together, have we? It feels like we're starting as a group again, so practicing is enjoyable, he said.
In particular, Doh Kyung Soo said, I'm enjoying practicing, but on the other hand it's not easy. In my twenties I had the stamina to perform very energetically, and I can feel the difference now. Of course I'm still young, but maybe because I haven't been doing it, my concentration during practice has actually improved while my stamina seems to drain quickly, he said, adding, I'm still working hard, as he voiced a private hardship.
When asked whether he planned to continue album activities in addition to this comeback, he replied outright, Of course. We have to keep going, EXO. Doh Kyung Soo said, I'll work hard to show a good side, I'll personally release an album and work hard on projects. If there are opportunities, I'll definitely do them all, and after releasing the full-length album next year, If there are projects I can do concurrently, I'll do them as much as possible, indicating he intends to continue both singing and acting.
