Singer Nam Woo-hyun won the K-POP award at the "Korea Culture and Entertainment Awards".
Nam Woo-hyun proved his steadfast popularity by winning the K-POP award at the "Korea Culture and Entertainment Awards" held on the 10th at the Grand Hyatt Seoul hotel.
The "Korea Culture and Entertainment Awards," now in its 33rd year, is a comprehensive arts awards ceremony that encompasses various domestic and international cultural and artistic fields such as film, drama, popular music, K-POP and musicals. Candidates are selected by combining online voter polls and evaluations by culture and entertainment experts for cultural and entertainment artists who were active during the year.
This year, Nam Woo-hyun, who showcased his presence as a "versatile all-rounder" artist through diverse activities including album promotions, concerts, musicals and OSTs, received the honor of the award.
Immediately after receiving the award, Nam Woo-hyun said, "I am sincerely grateful for this wonderful award. I will work even harder so that I can continue to be a singer loved as much as the great award I received. Above all, I am most grateful to my beloved Seedlings (official fandom name)."
Nam Woo-hyun released his fifth mini album, "Tree Ring," last August and showcased his musical growth as a solo artist by participating in lyric writing and composition for all tracks. Amid enthusiastic interest from global fans, he recorded initial week sales (sales in the week following an album's release) of more than 44,000 copies, renewing his "career high."
In the same month he also held the solo concert "Arbor Day5 - Namugo (高): Tree High School (TREE HIGH SCHOOL)," and the Seoul performance that opened the Asian tour drew attention as every seat for all shows sold out. He later performed in Macau, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Manila and Hong Kong, reaffirming his reputation as a "must-see performance craftsman."
Meanwhile, Nam Woo-hyun will meet audiences as Jo (Josephine), a romantic saxophonist who cross-dresses to survive, in the musical "Sugar," which opens on the 12th.
