'Baedalwasuda' Lee Young-ja revealed how she became friends with the late Choi Jin-sil.
On the 10th broadcast of KBS 2TV entertainment show 'Baedalwasuda', Lee Young-ja and Kim Sook were shown reminiscing about their rookie days.
That day Lee Young-ja, after unexpectedly meeting comedian juniors and sinking into memories, asked Kim Sook, "Don't you have a lot of historical episodes? Weren't the senior comedians telling people not to mess with you?"
Kim Sook recounted, "They gave me 100,000 won and told me to buy ice cream, so I thought I'd need change and bought two ice creams, and they scolded me, saying, 'How many mouths are there here that you bought two?' Then they gave me 100,000 won again and told me to buy cigarettes. I looked at the comedians' room and there were many mouths. I bought 100 packs of cigarettes. At the time one pack was 1,000 won. After that they didn't ask me to run errands anymore."
By contrast, Lee Young-ja, who entered through a special recruitment, said the seniors did not make her fetch coffee. She confessed, "I didn't enter as part of a class; I came in through special recruitment. They didn't tell me to do things, but I was somewhat looked down on."
Lee Young-ja lamented about the past, saying, "I did part-time work at a night stage. I had to eat while doing theater, so I performed at nightclubs," and Kim Sook sympathized, "You must have been very conscious of others, even if they didn't make you run errands."
Lee Young-ja recalled her memories with the late Choi Jin-sil, saying, "That's why I became close with Jin-sil. At the time when I was a rookie, Jin-sil was a top star. She came as a guest on my program. When I said, 'I'm the same age as you,' Jin-sil said, 'Okay, let's be friends,' and from then on we became friends," adding, "It was an honor when she said let's be friends."
Kim Sook said, "Jin-sil unni seemed to be very kind to everyone," and Lee Young-ja also missed the late Choi Jin-sil, saying, "She didn't judge people. She was such a good friend."
Kim Sook also recalled an anecdote with the late Choi Jin-sil. She said, "I went to Jin-sil unni's house to interview her. At that time Jin-sil unni treated me so well. It was a dress she had worn once in a drama, and she said, 'If you're going to wear it, wear it,' and gave it to me," sharing the heartwarming story.
She added, "From then on unni started giving me clothes. She took good care of my clothes. Jin-sil unni really dressed well. She was a very good unni."
