As comedian Park Narae faces allegations of manager abuse that are shaking the entertainment industry, the broadcasting world has naturally revisited the managers' good stories of Jang Young-ran and Park Myung-soo, who are cited as contrasting examples. With manager-related controversies continuing, their cases stand out in sharper contrast and are drawing attention.
After the Dispatch report sparked the allegations, Park Narae faced various claims from former managers, including workplace harassment, verbal abuse, special injury, errands for proxy prescriptions, and unpaid hosting fees. The former managers applied to the court for real estate provisional seizure, and Park Narae's side said she had misunderstandings with managers who had been like family and announced a halt to activities, but the former managers denied this, saying there was no apology and that they instead heard 'let's sue,' so the controversy is still spreading.
Meanwhile, past interviews and broadcast clips of Jang Young-ran are being reshared on online communities. On MBC's Radio Star, Jang Young-ran said, "I was upset because my manager's pay was too low," and said she had asked to reduce her contract fee to increase the salaries of her manager and stylist. Her agency accepted this, and it was reported that their actual pay rose significantly, drawing much attention.
Also on MBC's Omniscient Interfering View, footage aired showing not only Jang Young-ran's current manager but also former managers who had left accompanying her on her schedule. A former manager expressed gratitude, saying Jang Young-ran personally arranged a vehicle for hospital use when he changed careers to become a car dealer, and another former manager said he still maintains a connection working at a hospital run by Jang Young-ran's husband. Yang Se-hyung, who is in the same agency, also said, "Jang Young-ran is especially popular with managers," attracting attention.
Similar good stories are also seen with comedian Park Myung-soo. His manager Han Kyung-ho recently mentioned Park Myung-soo's consideration on social media, saying, "During the busy event season I had to drive from Seoul to Gyeongju, but at the Chungju rest area, Park Myung-soo hyung refueled and took the wheel himself." In the released photo, Park Myung-soo was driving with a relaxed expression, and one manager said, "He drives really well, with that same bright expression," showing his delight.
Park Myung-soo's driving kindness is not new. Last year, while traveling to an event in Yeosu, he drove 300 km of the 730 km round trip himself to ease his manager's burden, and one manager said on a broadcast, "He pays more than peers, so I'm always grateful." The industry also attributes the long-term stability of the team to "Park Myung-soo's consistent consideration."
With recent manager-related controversies repeatedly emerging, the reason Jang Young-ran's and Park Myung-soo's cases are being reexamined seems clear. While some have halted activities and are embroiled in legal disputes due to conflicts with managers, others show relationships in which both current and former managers come first to maintain ties.
