'Radio Star' actor Heo Sung-tae expressed his impression of Park Bo-gum.
On the 10th broadcast of the MBC variety show 'Radio Star', actor Heo Sung-tae appeared. Once perceived by internet users as someone who dug only one well called theater and became known through the media, Heo Sung-tae was actually a former sales employee at a major corporation and was a figure who made a mark in Russian trade. I thought marrying early and giving my parents grandchildren was filial piety. Then I heard an audition would be held in Busan. So I tried. I was among 15 out of 800 people, and I kept advancing from audition to audition," he said. In that audition program, with an impressive look and intense acting that stamped his presence on the judges and the public, he started from bit parts, moved to supporting roles, and now took on leading roles.
Heo Sung-tae said, "I prepared by studying senior actor Choi Min-sik's acting, and I met senior actor Choi Min-sik in Big Bet. I improvised a lot of curse words, and senior actor Choi Min-sik said, 'Sung-tae, nice!' It gave me goosebumps," and added, "On the way from Mok-dong to Geoje, I resolved for five hours that I would take the audition. I said I would resign when I went down, and then I told them I had passed the audition. Fifteen days later we had to go to a training camp, so I planned to go to an acting academy and just went out," saying he had such strong intent toward acting.
So did Heo Sung-tae's family support this? Heo Sung-tae said, "My mother hit me. She cried and did that. In the meantime I showed her my acting. But she got angry," and added, "My elder brother is 10 years older than me. He angrily said to me, 'I want to be a singer too, then should I quit my job and become a singer?' Of course now everyone likes that I became an actor," revealing how his family's attitudes changed.
Although Heo Sung-tae has a look perfectly suited for villains, his familiar acting has now led him to take on virtuous roles as well. Especially in this year's drama Good Boy, where he appeared as Park Bo-gum's superior, Heo Sung-tae created chemistry with Park Bo-gum.
Heo Sung-tae mentioned Park Bo-gum's character, saying, "I am extremely distrustful of people. How can a person be perfect? But from the reading he was truly perfect. After hitting his co-star he apologized and gave an expensive lotion as a gift," and he added, "Park Bo-gum said, 'Hyung, don't smoke,' so I quit smoking earlier this year. Then it got a bit hard. When you quit smoking in certain regions, you can get support," explaining that thanks to Park Bo-gum he even tried quitting smoking, and saying that Park Bo-gum's kind nature had an impact that surprised everyone.
