The girl group UNIS (UNIS) is once again shaking up the Japanese music scene.
UNIS (Hyeonju, Nana, Gehlee, Kotoko, Bang Yunha, Elisiah, Oh Yuna, Lim Seowon) will release their second Japanese digital single, mwah… (mewa…, 幸せになんかならないでね), at 12 a.m. on the 17th on domestic and international online music sites.
On the 9th, UNIS left a hint about the new song through images featuring kitschy props such as a teddy bear clock and a megaphone on their official SNS channel. On the 10th, they unveiled a newly styled group photo with the concept of the new song, previewing UNIS's distinctive bouncy music.
The released photos capture UNIS transformed into lively yet sassy girls. The members completed a lovely vibe with styling in combinations of pink, white and denim.
Added to this are one of the point choreographies, the hand-kiss move, and the signature character "Reko-chan" doll by Japanese representative singer-songwriter Koresawa, who participated in the digital single, raising expectations for "mwah…" even higher.
"mwah…" is a song that expresses the playful heart of a girl in love. In particular, the lyrics conveying a lovely jealousy — "don't be happy with another girl instead of me" — are unique and charming.
This time again, UNIS raised the musical quality through collaborations with artists who boast strong local popularity. Lyrics and composition were handled by Koresawa, who is widely loved in both Korea and Japan for songs such as Jeon Yeojachinguyeoreobunkke (元彼女のみなさまへ), Barampfiumyeon Andeun-dei (浮したらあかんで) and ♡Insaeng♡ (♡人生♡). Performance was contributed by Hana, who won Mnet's dance survival program World of Street Woman Fighter (WSWF).
This year UNIS solidified their local presence through steady musical activities such as Shaking My Head (쉐이킹 마이 헤드) and Mosimosi♡. With "mwah…," they once again aim squarely at Japan and will make the year-end meaningful.
