Broadcaster Kim Na-young heard the feelings of a 2001-born who was sent for overseas adoption and showed tears.
On the afternoon of the 11th broadcast of MBN 'Puzzle Trip', Kim Na-young grants an appearance and cried after hearing KT (Hee-yeon's) story.
That day Kim Won-hee said, "The last protagonist of Puzzle Trip is my very close younger sister Kim Na-young," and Kim Na-young said, "What was everyone doing in 2002? It was all excited because of the World Cup. The person I will introduce today was adopted in February 2002."
KT, born in 2001, was adopted to the United States when she was six months old. She said, "I want to go to Korea to meet the family I miss and to meet the foster mother who took care of me for a while. Returning to Korea for the first time in 23 years, I am so excited and nervous to be going there," she conveyed in a letter. Choi Soo-jong said, "I just can't picture it. I can understand sending children abroad for adoption in the hard times of the past, but since our daughter is a 2000-born, it's hard to imagine."
KT, who came to Korea for the first time in 23 years, what kind of story might she have? Ahead of her first meeting with puzzle guide Kim Na-young, Kim Na-young showed anxiousness, saying, "I should be a good older sister. I'm so nervous." Meeting KT, Kim Na-young introduced herself as a TV entertainer, and KT introduced herself, "I am a graphic designer. I work on branding projects and website design." For KT, who came to Korea after a long time, Kim Na-young served ssanghwacha and shaved ice with red beans.
KT said the reason she decided to go to Korea was, "Since last year I developed a desire to know more about my roots. Since then I became interested in Korean food at home and gradually wanted to know my identity. So I thought about going to Korea while studying Korean history and the Korean language." Footage was even shown of her making and eating gimbap, braised chicken, seaweed soup and other dishes.
KT said the adoption papers stated the reason for the adoption. She said, "The documents hardly convey any emotion, so you couldn't know the full circumstances before and after." She said she had been pregnant with KT at a young age but was unable to raise the child, so she gave her up for adoption.
KT said she contacted her biological parents in November last year, and the biological mother revealed where she currently lives and that she remarried and has children with another person. KT said, "I learned that my adoption was not because my biological parents wanted it but due to pressure from those around them. They did not plan to be pregnant at a young age, but after the pregnancy they made many efforts for my birth," she confessed.
Kim Na-young comforted her, saying, "Raising a child at 20 or 19 is hard even now, and it must have been much harder in the past." KT said, "I think my biological parents are courageous people. Even if not now, I am waiting for the day we will meet someday. And even if they do not come to find me, what I want to say is that I have never resented or been angry. If they want to meet me even 20 years later, I will gladly accept them as I do now."
