Actor Jo Han-chul completed an extreme villain character in Heroes Next Door.
Jo Han-chul plays Kim Seok-jun, the ambitious minister of the Ministry of National Defense, in the Coupang Play X Genie TV original series Heroes Next Door, delivering a chilling villainous performance.
In the broadcasts of episodes 7 and 8, Kim Seok-jun's past was revealed. Three years ago, Kim Seok-jun learned of a serious accident related to the son of Representative Kwon, a leading candidate for the next National Assembly speaker, through Na Eun-jae (played by Lee Bong-ryun). After learning of the matter, he actively participated in covering it up for political ambition and personal gain.
His wrongdoing continued into the present. Kim Seok-jun faced an internal investigation after a video exposing his corruption was revealed. However, wearing a calm smile, he retorted, "Do you suspect me?" and maintained a brazen attitude as if he had done nothing wrong. He claimed that he had set up a scheme to investigate the bombing incident but that Vice Minister Lee Geun-chul (played by Han Jae-seok) was spoiling it. For a moment, when circumstances turned against him, Kim Seok-jun plotted an escape. But things did not go as planned, and while attempting to flee he encountered Choi Kang (played by Yoon Kye-sang) and engaged in a physical struggle. After being subdued by Choi Kang, Kim Seok-jun confessed to being behind the explosion, and attention is focused on what fate he will meet.
Jo Han-chul vividly portrayed the opportunistic nature of the character, his brazen refusal to admit wrongdoing, and a face that spares no one for the sake of his goals. From a meaningful smile to the anger when things do not go his way, to the fear that emerges when cornered, he depicted these details meticulously, heightening the drama's tension and once again proving his worth as a scene stealer.
Actor Jo Han-chul, who has anchored dramas such as Reborn Rich as well as Love Next Door and Spring of Youth with solid acting, is a distinguished performer. After recently playing Sun Woo-chan, an immature but warm-hearted father in My Youth, he transformed into a powerful villain in Heroes Next Door, proving a wide acting spectrum with a completely different face. Expectations are growing for his new moves and activities ahead as a trusted actor viewers can rely on.
Meanwhile, the series Heroes Next Door, in which Jo Han-chul appears, is released simultaneously on Coupang Play, Genie TV and ENA every Monday and Tuesday at 10 p.m.
