Netflix animated film 'K-pop Demon Hunters (Kedeheon)' director Maggie Kang will receive the Order of Cultural Merit, Silver Crown, in recognition of her contributions to the development of the content industry.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) on the 10th at COEX in Seoul presented government awards and certificates to 24 individuals who contributed to the spread of K-content this year and to 15 outstanding pieces of content.
Director Maggie Kang was credited with playing a decisive role in expanding K-pop and K-culture by leading the global success of 'Kedeheon,' which was recorded as one of the most popular animations in Netflix history.
In particular, the award citation cited her original attempt to combine a Korean worldview with music and action as proving new possibilities for 'K-content' within the animation genre.
At the ceremony, in addition to Director Kang, drama When Life Gives You Tangerines producer Kim Won-seok and Queen of Tears writer Park Ji-eun received the Order of Cultural Merit, and creators from content, games and broadcasting were listed among the government commendations.
In the excellent works category, the manhwa Omniscient Reader: The Prophet, the animation The King of Kings and the character 'Dallnim-i' received the presidential award.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) said, "The standing of K-content in the global market is rising further," and noted, "We will continue to actively support creators' global leaps."
