You Quiz on the Block will present a special titled "Writing miracles."
Today (the 10th, Wednesday) at 8:45 p.m., episode 322 of You Quiz on the Block (directed by Kwak Cheong-a and Heo Kang-seok, writer Lee Un-ju) will feature brothers Lee Yoo-ju·Lee Jun-myeong, who dominated the Korea mental arithmetic and abacus olympiad; Kim Hyun-ju, the granddaughter of an independence activist couple who published "Jesse's diary"; investment genius Jeon Won-ju; and comedian Kim Soo-yong, who collapsed from acute myocardial infarction and returned from the brink of death.
Brothers Lee Yoo-ju and Lee Jun-myeong, who swept the Korea mental arithmetic and abacus olympiad amid the hot craze for abacus education, will appear on You Quiz. In the most prestigious abacus competition, which draws more than 500 participants each year, older brother Lee Yoo-ju took first place overall in the elementary division, and younger brother Lee Jun-myeong also took first place in the fourth-grade division, achieving the unusual feat of brothers winning. The broadcast will reveal candid practice behind-the-scenes from Lee Yoo-ju, who even won the speaker of the national assembly award, as well as episodes of Lee Jun-myeong showing a cute rival spirit toward his brother, among various stories. Viewers will be able to see firsthand the two prodigy brothers' abacus skills that elicit admiration at astonishing speed. "Jesse's diary" is a childcare diary recorded when Yang Woo-jo and Choi Seon-hwa, a couple who carried out independence activities in the provisional government, had their eldest daughter Jesse in China; it contains eight years of daily life from Jesse's birth to her return to Korea after liberation. Kim Hyun-ju, Jesse's daughter, will unfold all the stories about "Jesse's diary," which has great significance as historical material beyond a simple childcare diary. The story will reveal the independence activist couple who held a wedding with Kim Gu of Baekbeom as the officiant, as well as the diary and photographs they always carried during their flight, and the childcare diary story recorded for eight years amid bombings. Marking Dec. 10, the day of the provisional government's declaration of war against Japan, it is expected to be an even more meaningful time to remember the dedication of independence activists.
The story of Jeon Won-ju, a senior figure in Korea's entertainment industry and an investment genius known as "Jeon Won-buffett," also draws interest. Now in his 62nd year since debut, Jeon Won-ju is an investment master who turned 500,000 won in 1987 into 3 billion won; he will reveal the "real investment secrets" that produced a stock return of 600%. Viewers will be captivated by his daily habit of checking real estate, the genuine wealthy person's financial know-how he has kept for 40 years, his distinctive saving philosophy, and legendary anecdotes.
You will also hear behind-the-scenes stories of his acting life, including Jeon Won-ju's personal reveal of "what's in my bag." The broadcast will cover stories from his transition from voice actor to actor, taking on apron-wearing roles such as tavern owner and housemaid, to a turning point brought by his hearty laugh, and how he became a commercial star. The show will feature Jeon Won-ju's life philosophy of now enjoying spending money and how he lives as the protagonist of his own life.
Comedian Kim Soo-yong's dramatic survival story, the "miracle Su-dragon" who collapsed from acute myocardial infarction and returned from the brink of death, will also be revealed on You Quiz. Three weeks after being discharged from the intensive care unit, Kim Soo-yong participated in his first broadcast schedule and opened up about surviving a life-or-death moment after cardiac arrest. Viewers will hear directly about the warning signs and timeline of myocardial infarction, including the story of how he applied a pain relief patch for sudden chest pain and the tense situation in which he lost memory on set and went into cardiac arrest.
In particular, the vivid emergency treatment process in which colleagues Kim Sook and Im Hyeong-jun performed CPR for the fainted Kim Soo-yong, and the dramatic moment when he was unconscious for 20 minutes due to cardiac arrest and headed to the morgue, will be revealed. The broadcast will feature for the first time on You Quiz the story he confesses about that day and candid reflections on life and death after experiencing a miracle.
