Actor Park Geon-il, formerly of the group Choosinseong, said he referred to Michelin three-star chef Anh Sung-jae and the Netflix series "Culinary Class Wars" for "The First Man."
MBC held a press conference for the new daily drama "The First Man" (writer Seo Hyun-joo, director Kang Tae-heum) at its Sangam-dong office in Mapo-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the 10th. The event was attended by the drama's lead actors Ham Eun-jung, Yoon Seon-woo, Oh Hyun-kyung, Park Geon-il, Kim Min-seol, Jung Chan, Lee Jae-hwang and director Kang Tae-heum, who directed the drama, and under the moderation of announcer Seo-in they talked about "The First Man."
"The First Man" is a drama about a deadly confrontation between a woman who lives another person's life for revenge and a woman who stole another person's life for her own desires. Writer Seo Hyun-joo, loved for "Shining Romance" and "The Best Lover," presents another installment in her number series following "The Second Husband" and "The Third Marriage."
Park Geon-il, formerly of idol group Choosinseong, plays Kang Joon-ho, a cold perfectionist and former Michelin three-star chef in the drama. He is a character expected to show changing charisma as he meets the only woman he loves, Oh Jang-mi.
Recently, Anh Sung-jae has been gaining great popularity as Korea's Michelin three-star chef. Did Park Geon-il refer to any real aspects while portraying him?
In response, Park Geon-il said, "When we first filmed the kitchen scenes, the director's first question was, 'Have you ever been to a three-star [restaurant]?' So I said I hadn't," drawing laughter.
However, he said, "These days a lot of information about cooking and the basics chefs should have are available through Netflix's reality series "Culinary Class Wars" and various broadcasts. I referred to those a lot," and added, "The most important thing was the mindset toward cooking and trying to reflect my inner self about what mind I make food with."
"The First Man" will premiere Monday the 15th at 7:05 p.m. as the successor to the currently airing "The Woman Who Swallowed the Sun." <
