Actor Jo Yoon-soo showed versatile performances through "The Manipulated".
Jo Yoon-soo recently played the role of No Eun-bi, a prickly yet bold character, in Disney+ original series "The Manipulated," showcasing a variety of traits that tuned the drama's tension. Previously, she captivated global viewers as Chae Ja-kyung, who alternates between twin brothers' personalities, in Disney+ original series "The Tyrant," and through this work she once again left a strong presence while steadily building a solid filmography.
In the drama, Eun-bi, played by Jo Yoon-soo, is the daughter of No Yong-sik (played by Kim Jong-su), the lifesaver Park Tae-jung (played by Ji Chang-wook) met in prison. She becomes an ally who gradually pays attention to him and helps with revenge after learning the story of Tae-jung, who was unfairly embroiled in a heinous crime. At first she turns on Tae-jung, but after confronting his injustice she actively supports him and fully revealed an energetic girl-crush charm. Jo Yoon-soo added dimensionality to the character by delicately expressing a warm heart hidden beneath an unreserved personality and resolute attitude.
She also vividly portrayed the poignant father-daughter narrative between Eun-bi and her father Yong-sik. While naturally blending Eun-bi's tsundere attitude of distancing herself from her father because of long-held resentment and hatred, she delivered deep emotion by rushing to protect him more desperately than anyone else the moment he was in danger. Jo Yoon-soo carefully expressed Eun-bi's ambivalent emotional line with solid acting skills and handled intense action sequences.
Jo Yoon-soo's performances contributed to "The Manipulated"'s global box office sprint. According to FlixPatrol, a site that aggregates viewing rankings of content on global OTT platforms, "The Manipulated" ranked No. 2 worldwide in Disney+ top 10 TV shows as of the 23rd of last month, held the No. 1 spot for 17 consecutive days in Korea and Taiwan, ranked No. 2 in Singapore and Hong Kong, and charted in six countries including Türkiye and Japan, proving its global popularity.
So far, Jo Yoon-soo has consistently shown her presence and been active in various works such as Netflix's "Juvenile Justice," the drama "The Murderer's Shopping List," and "Understanding of Love." In particular, in her previous work "The Tyrant," she played Chae Ja-kyung and made a shocking transformation from her first appearance with short hair and full-body tattoos. She left a strong impression by perfectly executing dazzling sequences ranging from bare-hand action to high-level firearm action and car chases, solidifying her status as an acknowledged "monster rising star" through the work "The Tyrant."
Jo Yoon-soo is set to make full-scale screen activities by playing Yuna, a mysterious girl with an unknown identity, in the film "Dokkaebi: body snatcher" (working title). <
