Comedian Park Na-rae has suspended activities amid allegations of manager power abuse, and broadcaster Jang Young-ran's "manager goodwill story" is drawing renewed attention.
The Park Na-rae issue, sparked by a Dispatch report on the 4th, spread beyond a simple power-abuse controversy as successive related allegations emerged. Former managers filed a request for property seizure against Park Na-rae's side, claiming workplace harassment, verbal abuse, special injury, errands for proxy prescriptions, and unpaid hosting fees.
In response, Park Na-rae declared a suspension of activities, saying "there was a misunderstanding with the managers I treated like family," but the former managers rebutted, saying "there was no apology and no settlement. Instead, we were told 'sue us,'" and the controversy grew larger.
In this situation, online communities and others have naturally raised comparisons with Jang Young-ran's manager-related goodwill stories.
On the past MBC show Radio Star, Jang Young-ran directly said, "I was upset because the managers' salaries were too low. So I asked to reduce my signing fee and instead raise the salaries of my manager and stylist." Her agency reportedly accepted this, and the managers' pay was greatly increased.
Moreover, on MBC's Omniscient Interfering View, not only her current manager but also former managers were shown accompanying Jang Young-ran's schedule, drawing attention. A former manager said Jang Young-ran contracted a hospital vehicle for him after he changed careers to become a car dealer and expressed gratitude, calling her "like an older sister."
Another former manager revealed that they continue their relationship while working at a hospital run by Jang Young-ran's husband, and the agencymate Yang Se-hyung also testified, "Jang Young-ran is very popular among managers," attracting attention.<
