'Dynamite Kiss' is racing to No. 1 globally.
SBS Wed-Thu drama 'Dynamite Kiss' (writers Ha Yoon-ah, Tae Kyung-min / directors Kim Jae-hyun, Kim Hyun-woo / produced by Studio S, Samhwa Networks) is a mutual, simmering romance between a single woman who got a job by posing as a mother to make ends meet and the head of team who fell in love with her. Romance-optimized actor Jang Ki-yong (playing Gong Ji-hyeok) and Ahn Eun-jin (playing Go Da-rim) lead a thrilling, intensely dopamine-exploding romance that starts with a kiss, sweeping the No. 1 spots on domestic and international box office indicators.
The Dec. 4 broadcast of 'Dynamite Kiss' episode 8 set a new personal best with a 7.1% viewership rating in the Seoul metropolitan area. The peak instantaneous rating surged as high as 8.5%, and the 2049 rating also hit a personal best at 2.41%. In addition, it took first place in same-time-slot ratings across all channels, first in weekday drama ratings across all channels, and first in 2949 ratings among all programs broadcast on Thursday, rising to an overwhelmingly dominant position.
The success of 'Dynamite Kiss' has exploded not only domestically but also overseas. It reached Netflix's global top spot for non-English content for Nov. 24–30. With this, 'Dynamite Kiss' drew a steep success curve of No. 3 globally in its first broadcast week, No. 2 in its second week and No. 1 in its third week. Loved evenly around the world, 'Dynamite Kiss' is receiving especially strong support in Asia and the Americas, and its global hit run is expected to continue.
How did 'Dynamite Kiss' manage to beat so many competing works worldwide and reach No. 1 globally? The reaction is that it portrayed the universal emotion of "love," which anyone can empathize with, in a very intuitive way without a dull moment. In particular, when viewers thought, 'surely this will happen?,' the show delivered that expectation in a thrilling way, allowing viewers to savor the essence of familiarity, which is cited as a reason for its popularity.
This was possible thanks to writers Ha Yoon-ah and Tae Kyung-min's intuitive, heart-fluttering dialogue; directors Kim Jae-hyun and Kim Hyun-woo's fresh, rhythmic direction; and the lovable performances and dazzling romantic chemistry delivered by appealing actors led by Jang Ki-yong and Ahn Eun-jin, including Kim Mu-jun (playing Kim Seon-woo) and Woo Da-bi (playing Yoo Ha-young). Their perfect synergy has amplified the familiar pleasures of 'Dynamite Kiss' to the extreme, hitting the tastes of "rom-com maniacs" worldwide. As a result, an unusual level of popularity centered on the lead actors is already erupting in various countries.
'Dynamite Kiss' has now passed its midpoint. In the episode 8 ending, Gong Ji-hyeok learned Go Da-rim's secret (that she is neither a mother nor a married woman), foreshadowing a major turning point in the two's simmering romance. With that obstacle removed, viewers are期待 whether the two will walk a romantic path and how much they will make viewers' hearts flutter.
