Big Bang Daesung mentioned the secret to passing the YG audition on his first try.
On the 9th broadcast of KBS 1TV 'Morning Yard', Big Bang Daesung appeared on the 'Tuesday guest' segment.
That day Daesung said he passed YG after a single audition. He explained, "Saying I passed on the first try sounds grand, but the reason I nurtured the dream of becoming a singer was that I aimed for black music and hip-hop. I was determined to target only that company and focused on it."
Daesung said, "Before that there was an academy. I started attending it for some reason, and because the broadcast station's name was attached, several companies came to recruit. I hadn't gone to other places, and when I heard YG was coming I thought it was a golden opportunity. At that time there were no open auditions. I thought if I auditioned and missed it, it would be a disaster."
He continued, "The audition went to three rounds. The first round was at the academy, the second was at the company, and the third was an interview with the CEO," and when asked why Yang Hyun-suk chose him he guessed, "It's a very strange fact. I still don't understand. Maybe he had some insight." He added, "Actually he told me directly at the time. He said he chose me more for my smiling face than my singing."
When asked how he got his parents' permission to become a trainee, he said, "A coy smile never works on my parents. Those little tricks don't work," and expressed concern, "At the time there was talk that if a big agency picked you it was like an investment, but there was the burden that if you entered you would have to cover song costs and living expenses."
Daesung said, "My parents said even if I joined YG it would be hard to support me. So I thought if that was the case I would succeed and not give them a single allowance to show them." He said this with determination, provoking laughter.
