"Not an idol but my true self" Thunder announces establishment of hip-hop label one year after marriage
Thunder, formerly of MBLAQ, announced a new musical beginning one year after his marriage. After long consideration, he established his own hip-hop label and vowed to make another turning point in his music career.
Thunder recently posted a lengthy message on his social media, "Although it's late, today I announce my new beginning." He recalled that since debuting with MBLAQ in 2009 he has pursued various challenges including group activities, solo work and acting, and that he has now entered his 16th year since debut.
Thunder said, "When many people chose their own paths, I remained here because I love music," and added, "I have never once left music." He continued, "Inside the name 'idol,' I think I was 'not myself,' so I spent a long time thinking about shedding that image and finding myself again."
He also said he valued the journey of finding 'himself' more than success or numbers. His confession that "I feel like I have been on a journey finding myself by continuously writing and releasing songs" shows his attitude of choosing authenticity in music over commercial success.
After this process, Thunder established the hip-hop label "MOOVE LABEL" in June, fully reflecting his thoughts and direction. Thunder said, "On the culture of hip-hop, now I want to hustle properly with my true music rather than a curated image," and asked people to "watch my future steps."
Before debuting, Thunder became known as the younger sibling of 2NE1's Sandara Park, and he officially debuted in the music industry in 2009 as a member of MBLAQ. After leaving the team in 2014, he continued his music career as a solo artist.
Meanwhile, last May he married actress Jung Mi-mi, formerly of Gugudan, after four years of dating, attracting attention. One year after his marriage, Thunder has launched another challenge by establishing a hip-hop label, and interest is growing in what music he will present as an artist rather than 'idol Thunder'.<
