Voice actor and broadcaster Seo Yu-ri explained the controversy surrounding her.
Seo Yu-ri said on her social media on the 9th, "Regarding the false information and defamatory posts about me that have been indiscriminately spreading online recently, I want to correct the facts and state my firm position."
She said, "Numerous criminal complaints related to this matter were filed, and as a result of investigations, hundreds of suspects were identified and prosecuted and punished," and added, "This shows that the broadcasts I conducted had no legal problems, and rather, those who maliciously slandered me committed criminal acts, which was clearly proven through judicial authorities. Nevertheless, acts that continue to distort the facts and reproduce false information are ongoing, and I express deep regret about this."
Seo Yu-ri emphasized about the 'nude broadcast' controversy, "I am innocent before the law and conscience," and said, "The broadcast space where I worked, 'SOOP (SOOP),' is an institutional platform that strictly follows Korea's laws and order. There was not a single moment when I stepped outside the bounds of the law or hid in the shadows to do something shameful."
She continued, "If, as rumors suggest, I had stood on the boundary of illegality, the strict standards of investigative agencies would have been directed at me. But the result was the exact opposite. Those who mocked my lawful broadcast by equating it with illegal obscene material were the ones judged by the law. My innocence is not just a claim; it is the substantive truth proven by the investigation results."
Regarding appearing on internet broadcasts, she said, "The 'difference' I chose by leaving familiar comfort was not depravity but a fierce 'challenge,'" and explained, "I am a voice actor and broadcaster who has communicated with the world through my voice for a long time. After performing only with a refined voice behind an unseen screen, stepping into an unfamiliar space to share raw emotions with the public in real time was a decision made after agonizing consideration. It was a struggle and expansion as an artist who refused to be complacent and tried to keep pace with the rapidly changing times."
She added, "Of course, I understand that the way I expressed myself may feel unfamiliar to some. But the costumes and gestures I showed were not merely light means to attract attention. They were a creative language through which I tried to freely express myself on the stage of broadcasting, as if putting on a new role and acting," and said, "Unfortunately, some views labeled this challenge of mine with provocative words like 'the fall of a celebrity' or 'sexual deviation.' It is too cruel to destroy a person's professional convictions and story built over a lifetime with just a few malicious photos and fabricated rumors."
Finally, she said, "As a broadcaster, I will humbly accept sound criticism at any time. But malicious comments that slander without fact-checking and insult a person's character are not criticism but clear crimes. I did not remain silent about these illegal acts and proceeded with immediate legal action, and as a result, hundreds of perpetrators were judged by the law. This is not mere revenge. It is a legitimate exercise of rights to restore damaged honor and protect those who trust and care for me," and said, "Going forward, I will sternly deal with acts that hide behind anonymity to destroy others' lives without any leniency or settlements. I will firmly hold them accountable to ensure the common-sense principle that those who commit crimes must pay a correspondingly heavy price is upheld."
Meanwhile, Seo Yu-ri debuted in 2008 as part of Daewon Broadcasting's first class of voice actors, married producer Choi Myung-gil in April 2019, but divorced last year. In April, Seo Yu-ri also appeared on an internet broadcast live content and became embroiled in controversy.
