Broadcaster Cho Sae-ho, entangled in rumors of links to organized crime, will voluntarily step down from the programs he appears on.
Cho Sae-ho's agency A2Z Entertainment said on the 9th that Cho Sae-ho has decided to leave tvN's "You Quiz on the Block" and KBS 2TV's "2 Days & 1 Night."
A2Z Entertainment said, "Cho Sae-ho feels deep responsibility over the recent misunderstandings and gossip raised about him," adding, "After consulting with the production teams, he decided to step down voluntarily."
Earlier, a social media account posted photos along with a claim that Cho Sae-ho maintained ties with a person, identified as Mr. A, who is pointed to as an organized crime figure in a provincial area, and that they exchanged expensive gifts, sparking controversy.
A2Z Entertainment added, "We once again make clear that the claim he received money or valuables from Mr. A for business promotion is plainly not true," and said, "We are deeply grateful for the concern and comfort."
It continued, "We plan to respond more sternly. To clear up misunderstandings and restore the damaged image, we will pursue legal action more swiftly and firmly."
Meanwhile, Mr. A, who raised suspicions of Cho Sae-ho's links to organized crime, said, "Starting tomorrow, I will fight step by step until the truth prevails," vowing to continue revealing allegations.
Mr. A added, "I have received many tips about gambling money laundering, so I will try posting about that," and "Comedian Cho Sae-ho, whom I like, please don't just keep saying you will sue—explain like a man."
