The comedian Kim Soo-yong, who suffered 20 minutes of cardiac arrest from acute myocardial infarction and narrowly escaped death, spoke directly about the life-or-death emergency.
tvN "You Quiz on the Block" released a preview video ahead of its broadcast on the 9th titled "Kim Soo-yong, who experienced 20 minutes of cardiac arrest and miraculously returned." The video contained the signs leading up to Kim Soo-yong's collapse and the process from performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation to his miraculous recovery.
Yu Jae-seok introduced Kim Soo-yong and said, "a miraculous sudragon who returned after crossing the brink of life and death," then recalled, "I received a call from the manager saying, 'Kim Soo-yong hyung had cardiac arrest,' and I couldn't continue speaking."
On the 13th of last month in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi, Kim Soo-yong suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed while filming YouTube content with broadcaster Kim Sook and actor Im Hyung-joon. Paramedics arrived and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and he was later taken to the emergency room at Guri Hanyang University Hospital, where he barely regained breathing and consciousness. He was later diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction and reportedly underwent vascular dilation (stent procedure).
Recalling the situation before he collapsed, Kim Soo-yong said, "When I woke up in the morning my chest felt sore. My wife told me to go to the hospital, but I said 'it's muscle pain' and put on a pain patch," and added, "I even smoked. A strong cigarette," evoking sympathy.
He continued, "I greeted Im Hyung-joon. That's as far as my memory goes," and said he heard about the subsequent events from people around him. He said, "My tongue had folded back and almost blocked my airway, but Kim Sook pulled my tongue out, and Im Hyung-joon put a vasodilator he had for emergencies into my mouth. I heard they used a defibrillator seven times but my heart wouldn't come back."
Kim Soo-yong calmly recalled the moment, saying, "I thought I wouldn't recover, and after that I thought I was going to the morgue."
Hearing this, Yu Jae-seok said, "When I called he answered. He joked that the rib fractures from the CPR hurt more and said, 'If I get out of here I'm going to sue Kim Sook and Im Hyung-joon,'" and Kim Soo-yong replied, "Im Hyung-joon texted, 'Sir, I heard you're going to sue me for CPR injury. Please show leniency,'" prompting laughter.
Finally, Kim Soo-yong said, "I feel like I was born again. From now on I will live truly grateful," expressing his resolve for his changed life.
