On the 9th at a cafe in Jongno District, an interview was held with Kim Ye-seul, producer of the Netflix variety show Three Idiots in Kenya.
Three Idiots in Kenya is a variety show depicting the slapstick Africa travels of the three trusted laugh-makers Lee Soo-keun, Eun Ji-won and Kyuhyun.
'Keganse' was realized after Kyuhyun beat the overwhelming odds in the past New Journey to the West spinoff Iceland Three Meals (abbreviated Aganse) and won the Kenya Giraffe Hotel. It was a project fulfilled for fans six years after Aganse in 2019.
That day PD Kim Ye-seul commented on the trio's chemistry, which differed from other directed variety shows, saying, "What makes 'Keganse' different among our programs, I think, is that it has the most dense and rich chemistry."
She continued, "You will feel it when you watch the show. Sometimes they speak harshly without reservation. They also sometimes fight rawly. What's not worrying at all is that it's possible because they are so close. Compared with other shows, these people have spent so many years together that it comes out. It feels like everyday friends. I think it's a combination that feels like deep friendship rather than business," she analyzed.
When asked about the most satisfying scene, she said, "The scene where senior Kyuhyun kisses the giraffe," adding, "Actually, in terms of the program, senior Kyuhyun didn't have to do it. But in a 'you try it too' situation, all three naturally did it and he did it the most intensely. Thanks to that we could use it in the teaser without spoilers. I felt so proud then. I felt that all three were generally enjoying it in a fun way," she said, drawing laughter.
Thanks to the trio's intense(?) chemistry, fans are naturally expecting a new season of New Journey to the West. PD Kim cautiously said, "I was such a fan of the program that I was waiting too. I want to say it's a program we always wait for with one heart and one mind."
She added, "Internally it's always open, but schedules and various factors have to be met. Keganse also tried but timing has to align to enter. Fortunately, a good collaboration opportunity arose and the schedules worked out," saying, "(New season of New Journey to the West) we're looking for an opportunity."
