NCT member Doyoung announced a new song as he enlisted, bringing warmth to fans.
Doyoung released the full audio of his new single "Promise" and the music video for the title track "Late Words (Promise)" at 6 p.m. on the 9th on various music sites.
Earlier, Doyoung enlisted in the training center on the 8th and began his military service as an active-duty soldier in the army. Doyoung, who released the new single the very next day, wanted to soothe fans' emptiness with music during the time they would be apart.
This release consists of two tracks: the title track "Late Words (Promise)" and the included track "Whistle (Feat. Bel of KISS OF LIFE)" (Whistle), and it is an album that deeply expresses his gratitude to the fans who have always shown unwavering love.
The title track "Late Words (Promise)" is a ballad that blends a soulful vocal with an emotional melody; it begins with a minimal piano line and adds strings in the latter part, creating a development that builds emotional depth.
I love you, those words / The words that say I can't live without you / It's all new to me / I've been holding back and saving it / I know it's a little late / But now I want to say it / Thank you for waiting / I love you, I love you
The lyrics Doyoung wrote himself for his "beloved, whom I am thankful for" contain a sincere confession that conveys feelings he found difficult to express as his love deepened. Although the confession comes late, it delivers a correspondingly heavier resonance.
The released music video likewise conveys an emotional message. Centered on a clover plant symbolizing the bond between Doyoung and his fans, it metaphorically expresses gratitude and apology, and the scenes of changing seasons symbolically show the promise that memories and feelings will not change even when apart for a while.
Having established himself as a "representative K-pop vocalist" through various activities with NCT 127, NCT U and Do Jae-jung, Doyoung said this release will be his last before a temporary farewell from the stage and that he will return with deeper emotion. Because he has filled the space that will be vacant during his military service with music, attention is focused on his next steps when he returns from discharge with a more mature presence.
