Director Park Chan-wook's film No Other Choice and the K-pop-themed animated feature K-pop Demon Hunters (Kedehun) each landed three nominations at the Golden Globes in the United States, including best picture. With a Korean film and content advancing together in major categories, attention is on the competitive landscape at next year's awards.
According to the Golden Globes website on Dec. 9, No Other Choice was nominated for best motion picture, musical or comedy, and will compete with Blue Moon, Bugonia, Marty Supreme, Nouvelle Vague, and One Battle After Another. It also earned a nomination for best non-English language film, advancing simultaneously in two best picture categories.
Lead actor Lee Byung-hun was nominated for best actor in a musical or comedy, setting up a contest with Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), George Clooney (Jay Kelly), Jesse Plemons (Bugonia), Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), and Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), among top Hollywood contenders.
Netflix's animated feature Kedehun picked up three nominations, including best animated feature, best original song, and box office achievement. Five films, including Zootopia 2 and Arco, were nominated in the best picture race.
Meanwhile, the Hollywood remake of the Korean film Save the Green Planet!, Bugonia, secured three nominations: best motion picture, musical or comedy; best actress (Emma Stone); and best actor (Jesse Plemons).
The 83rd Golden Globe Awards will be held on Jan. 11 next year.
