(Following interview ⑤) Comedian Lee Su-ji of "Sisters' tea room" expressed her feelings about receiving enthusiastic love through YouTube.
Comedians Lee Su-ji and Jung Yi-rang held a joint interview on the morning of the 9th at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. The two met with domestic reporters at the venue and talked about Coupang Play variety show "Sisters' tea room."
"Sisters' tea room" is a tea room talk show in which sisters Su-ji and Yi-rang add a spoonful of chatter and two spoons of romance to enjoy time with top star guests. Jung Yi-rang and Lee Su-ji, who received praise for consecutive performances from "SNL Korea" to "Office Workers," are showing a newly introduced variety show that brings laughter.
At the same time, Lee Su-ji recently ranked second in this year's domestic YouTuber ranking released recently, following former mixed martial artist Choo Sung Hoon. She was the top female YouTuber.
Lee Su-ji named "Egen-nyeo" as her most beloved recent alter ego and said, "I started YouTube so I wouldn't waste the empty period of 'SNL' and could build up characters. It seems the idea has borne fruit. I was grateful to be called second place. I found out from the article. Seeing that I was second this year, we had a company dinner. We ate daechang. I thought let's have fun again next year. I'm very grateful to the writers who worked with me," she said.
Regarding earlier reactions that she 'cut short' the lifespan of various luxury-character items such as padded jackets and hats with her 'Jamie Mom' character, she laughed and said, "I recently did a year-end wrap-up as Jamie Mom, and this time there was a reaction that it was pretty, so I thought I digested it well."
Would there be pressure for the next character? Lee Su-ji calmly replied, "There is pressure, but on the contrary the advantage of YouTube is that it's my playground when something is a hot issue. I would be grateful if people like it, but even if it fails, it seems we can move to the next experiment like a 'research lab.' I'm not afraid of failure. Then we can come up with something else."
He also spoke about impressive comment reactions, saying with a laugh, "I told them to do whatever they wanted, but I didn't expect this much. How much do you want to succeed? There were comments like, 'Wasn't 48kg reversed front and back?' They were accurate," she joked.
Will she expect awards at year-end ceremonies as a result? Lee Su-ji laughed, "I'll go to the SBS Entertainment Awards but I don't expect anything. For me, this year, if it's the Baeksang and the Blue Dragon Awards, that would be enough." She added, "Actually this year I feel I received an excessive amount of love. It seems people enjoyed the characters and comedies I did. More than I prepared. But I think there was nothing particularly different about 2025. It seems they recognized me for continuing the work I do. I think I can just keep doing the work next year and the year after."
