"The Price of Confession" Jeon Do-yeon once again proved her class.
The Netflix series "The Price of Confession", released on the 5th, is a mystery thriller about An Yoon-soo (played by Jeon Do-yeon), who is framed as a suspect in her husband's murder, and Mo-eun (played by Kim Goeun), a mysterious figure called a witch, and the events that unfold between the two secretive people. "The Price of Confession", which draws a detailed psychological battle between characters, has continued to attract attention since its release with a compelling progression that never lets viewers take their eyes off it.
Jeon Do-yeon plays An Yoon-soo, who is suddenly falsely accused and imprisoned and accepts a dangerous transaction to regain her daily life. As a character who departs from society's standard of normalcy and has a somewhat free-spirited nature, her frankness and naivety arouse the suspicion of prosecutor Baek Dong-hoon (played by Park Hae-soo). The harsh investigation evokes sympathy for Yoon-soo, but the anxious face and unease captured through Dong-hoon's pursuit of her make it hard to form a judgment about the character An Yoon-soo. Jeon Do-yeon's characteristic innocent smile seems to say she is not the culprit, yet the chilling face that shows the obsession and desire beneath it makes one inevitably suspect her.
The gap that Jeon Do-yeon presents makes it impossible to tell what is real and adds confusion to the search for the real culprit, which is the backbone of the story. Her role, which arouses curiosity about the details of the incident, bolsters the mystery thriller genre and makes viewers unable to resist clicking to the next episode.
It is obvious that Jeon Do-yeon acts well. But that does not directly mean it is not new. With exceptional acting as her strength, Jeon Do-yeon has continuously explored newness and reminded the public of her presence. In this work, she chose a way to properly showcase her strengths through a new genre.
As she previously said she focused on the human instinct of "survival instinct" when building the An Yoon-soo character, she captured the rich emotions a person can feel at the moment of a life-or-death turn in every expression and look. She bursts emotions with a desperate cry to survive that tugs at viewers' hearts, and with deep eyes and breathing that convey emotion without words she unravels the complex inner life of the character. An Yoon-soo, who existed only in text, gained vitality after meeting Jeon Do-yeon, and Jeon Do-yeon once again showed why she had to be Jeon Do-yeon.
The Price of Confession, where Jeon Do-yeon's acting feats befitting the title of the most anticipated work of the second half of the year unfold, is available exclusively on Netflix.
