'Badaljip' Jang Nara, Ra Mi-ran and Lee Sun-bin showed off a girls' chemistry that even Sung Dong-il envied.
On the 9th episode of cable channel tvN House on Wheels - Beyond the Ocean: Hokkaido, which aired the afternoon of the 7th, 'the three siblings' Sung Dong-il, Kim Hee-won and Jang Nara and guests Ra Mi-ran and Lee Sun-bin created a new front yard on the eastern end of Hokkaido's Shiretoko Peninsula and were shown enjoying the breath of the wild. In particular, new guest Lee Sun-bin revealed that Jang Nara was her 'idol,' and by offering a warm day with her favorite, she provided a different kind of fun.
That day, even on her way to meet the Badaljip family, Lee Sun-bin could not hide her excitement, saying, "How can I meet senior Jang Nara? She's totally my idol." The family visited a local omakase restaurant to have dinner with Lee Sun-bin, and the owner grandmother served home-cooked meals made with fresh ingredients such as salmon, mountain vegetables and oysters, conveying the local sensibility. When Lee Sun-bin arrived at the restaurant, true to her usual high-energy extroverted personality, she quickly blended into the atmosphere as if she had come to a regular spot. Amid all this, in front of her 'idol' Jang Nara, Lee Sun-bin did not know what to do with herself and confessed, "In elementary school I performed a talent show to my senior's song," turning into a shy girl fan and drawing laughter.
Sung Dong-il, who is acquainted with Lee Sun-bin, also brought up an anecdote about his long-time friend Lee Kwang-soo. When Lee Sun-bin asked, "I wonder how Sung Dong-il's children are doing," he revealed, "The actor who played with my kids the most was Kwang-soo." Sung Dong-il added, "At the time we didn't have a TV at home, so the kids didn't know Kwang-soo was a celebrity. Later a friend told them, 'The uncle you're close to is the giraffe uncle,' and that's how they found out. Kwang-soo sends our kids a lot of gifts," sharing a heartwarming story.
Back at Badaljip, Jang Nara and Lee Sun-bin quickly became close. When Jang Nara, infected by Lee Sun-bin's high energy, also switched into cheerful girl mode, Sung Dong-il grabbed Ra Mi-ran and said, "You are a guest, too, but please look after the kids. She reminds me of our daughter Bin-i," lamenting and causing laughter. Ahead of lunch preparations, Sung Dong-il, Jang Nara and Lee Sun-bin headed to a local market. Discovering they both are bad with directions, Jang Nara and Lee Sun-bin got excited like girls once again. When Lee Sun-bin confessed, "Even if I film on the same set for six months, I still won't know the way," Jang Nara grabbed her hand and showed intense empathy, drawing laughs. Seeing that, Sung Dong-il said, "I saw you laughing a lot and talking a lot before falling asleep last night. I was jealous," and when Jang Nara replied, "I've never done anything like this, so I feel really good. I was happy," and nodded to Sung Dong-il's question, "Wasn't it good that you came here?" it touched viewers' hearts.
The three brought back freshly caught salmon from the market to Badaljip, and amid a bounty of fresh ingredients, 'original Seong chef' Sung Dong-il and 'food professor' Ra Mi-ran displayed their skills to the fullest. From hinoki steamed dishes filled with large clams, scallops and conches to a giant salmon steak you can't buy anywhere, an upgraded sushi set and fresh bibimbap with raw fish, the family's reactions exploded at the luxurious spread.
Afterward, the family set out to explore unknown nature. They embarked on an exploration of Shiretoko National Park, located even deeper in the eastern end of Hokkaido. With five lakes reflecting the blue sky and primeval forests that breathe ancient life, this world natural heritage site is home to a variety of wild flora and fauna since it is untouched by human hands. In particular, because one of them is the 'wild bear,' prior education was also essential. The family entered the wild forest with both anticipation and tension, and from sika deer grazing nearby to the beautiful water color of the lakes and the pristine scenery, they brought great healing to viewers.
