Actor Ji Seung-hyun transformed into a "time traveler."
KBS's flagship traditional history documentary "History Special" returned with a new time travel concept using artificial intelligence (AI) and Extended Reality (XR).
On the first broadcast on the 7th, "History Special: Time Traveler" moved one step closer to the history of "The Battle of Salsu," one of the three great battles in Korean history. It conveyed General Eulji Mundeok's strategic response against the Sui dynasty's large army and the historical flow of East Asia through the steady hosting of "time traveler" Ji Seung-hyun.
Through the new filming method of "History Special," Ji Seung-hyun not only witnessed the scene of the "Battle of Salsu," but also wore armor completed through costume verification, delivering a realism as if he were roaming an actual battlefield. On the XR stage where props, weapons and battle backgrounds were implemented, he delivered vivid performances that drew viewers into the experience.
Moreover, Ji Seung-hyun moved directly through various parts of the battlefield, calmly narrating the topographical advantages of the Battle of Salsu and General Eulji Mundeok's psychological warfare and tactical operations, showing a differentiated approach from conventional history documentaries.
In particular, the immersive scenes recreated with AI and XR, where he adjusted emotion and tempo in each shot to guide viewers' focus, were a synergy created by the meeting of a traditional history documentary and an actor, and positive reviews continued for Ji Seung-hyun's performance. Expectations and interest are gathering for the roles actor Ji Seung-hyun will show as he walks through time in the new history content "History Special: Time Traveler," which combines technology and narrative.
This year Ji Seung-hyun solidified his position as a "reliable actor" across drama, film and over-the-top platforms. In the Wavve original and Dramax drama "Punishment," he played the role of "Ma Seok-gu," completing a powerful characterization different from before and expanding his range as an actor, and the film "Expiration of Chance," which was selected as an official selection at the 3rd Da Nang Asian International Film Festival (DANAFF), opened in Vietnamese theaters and has been receiving strong attention from the press and audiences.
Meanwhile, KBS's "History Special: Time Traveler," in which Ji Seung-hyun appears, airs every Sunday night at 9:30 p.m.
