Broadcasters including MBC and tvN have issued notices that Park Na-rae, who faces allegations of abusing power against her manager, will step down from her variety shows.
The production team of MBC's variety show I Live Alone said on the 8th, "Given the gravity of the matter and Park Na-rae's intention to suspend her activities, we have decided to halt Park Na-rae's appearance on I Live Alone."
The production team added, "We did not take this matter lightly," and said, "We apologize for the delay in our official position as we sought to assess the issue with a focus on fairness regarding the recent claims."
I Live Alone is a variety show that Park Na-rae joined in 2016 and has been on for more than nine years to date. Boosted by her appearance on I Live Alone, Park won the grand prize at the MBC Entertainment Awards in 2019.
The production team of tvN's variety show Amazing Saturday also said that day, "We respect Park Na-rae's intention to suspend broadcasting activities, and she will not join recordings from the next session onward."
Riding high as a female entertainer, with honors including the MBC Entertainment Awards and the Baeksang Arts Awards TV category best female entertainer, Park Na-rae became embroiled in controversy on the 4th after former managers claimed she had engaged in "gapjil."
On top of that, additional allegations that Park Na-rae received illegal medical treatment and proxy prescriptions from a person known as the so-called "injection auntie" further fueled the controversy.
Park Na-rae posted on her social media (SNS) that "I have decided to suspend broadcasting activities until everything is resolved cleanly."
Following Park Na-rae's decision to halt her broadcasting activities, cancellations of variety show productions also emerged. MBC ultimately canceled production of the new variety show "Nado Shinna" after postponing filming.
Nado Shinna was originally planned with the concept of four female comedians—Park Na-rae, Jang Doyoun, Shin Giru, and Heo Anna—going on a trip. It was reportedly slated to air in Jan. next year, and some filming had already taken place.
