"The Devil's Orchestra" director explained why he used singer Lim Young-woong's hit song "Love Always Runs Away" as a main OST.
On the morning of the 8th, a production presentation for the film "The Devil's Orchestra" (director Kim Hyeong-hyeop, distributor CJ CGV, production Studio Target) was held at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Present were director Kim Hyeong-hyeop and actors Park Si-hoo, Jung Jin-woon, Tae Hang-ho, Jang Ji-geon, Han Jeong-wan, Moon Kyung-min, Go Hye-jin, Choi Seon-ja, Seo Dong-won, Kang Seung-wan and Shin Han-gyeol, who talked about the film.
"The Devil's Orchestra" is a human drama film about what happens when a fake praise troupe is created in North Korea to earn foreign currency. In particular, Park Si-hoo, who is returning to the screen 10 years after the 2015 release of the film "After Love" and is drawing attention, transforms from a cold security officer into the conductor who leads the fake praise troupe. Jung Jin-woon plays a principled officer who opposes him, delivering tense confrontation. In addition, character actors representing Chungmuro such as Tae Hang-ho, Seo Dong-won and Jang Ji-geon, and veteran mid-career actors such as Moon Kyung-min and Choi Seon-ja join as members of the "fake praise troupe," completing a fantastic give-and-take and a heartwarming emotional ensemble.
The film also depicts, in a cheerful and warm way against the backdrop of an overwhelming scale and exotic scenery completed through large-scale location shoots between Mongolia and Hungary, how the performances that started as "fake" become a "real" harmony. Kim Hyeong-hyeop, who brought warm laughter and emotion with "Dad Is a Daughter," is directing, and is expected to deliver a passionate humanism that breaks down the cold wall of ideology.
Various musical pieces appear in the film. In particular, singer Lim Young-woong's hit song "Love Always Runs Away" appears as a main OST. In this regard, Han Jeong-wan said, "There is a scene in which Mansu obliviously sings South Korean trot. But in reality I am not oblivious," and he actually sang Lim Young-woong's "Love Always Runs Away," which he performed in the film, live on guitar.
On this, director Kim Hyeong-hyeop said, "Many songs appear, and Lim Young-woong's 'Love Always Runs Away' is, as the title suggests, a song that plays a decisive role in the film. It's a little spoilerish to reveal here, but it's also a song that changes the protagonist. That song has meaning beyond mere fame. We prepared a lot. I talked a lot with actor Han Jeong-wan, and he performed the role splendidly. Thanks to that, it is well used in the film as a song that brings about the character's change. You may understand when you have a good opportunity to see it later," increasing expectations among Lim Young-woong fans.
"The Devil's Orchestra" opens nationwide on the 31st.
