'Extreme 84' Kian84 overcame the extreme challenge and succeeded in completing the Big 5 marathon.
On the 7th, the MBC variety show 'Extreme 84' depicted Kian84, embarking on his first trail marathon, facing a "hell section" that continued with downhill·sand·uphill.
That day, after downhill and uphill paths followed by a sandy road, Kian84 met another uphill course and was breathing heavily from the start of the climb. The section was said to have an extraordinarily steep slope, nicknamed the graveyard of runners. However, Kwon Hwa-woon astonished viewers by conquering the uphill in a remarkable 26 minutes.
Struggling to climb, Kian84 showed a crazed look and said, "This is just hell. It was hell, hell." In a subsequent interview he laughed and said, "I like things like that. These days, not celebrities eating and playing. Our channel is the best for celebrities' hell experiences. If you want to see celebrities suffering, watch 'Extreme 84.'"
Eventually Kian84 shouted, "I can't go," then collapsed. He even vomited. At the same time, Kwon Hwa-woon kept running without rest and rose to second place alone. He vowed, "I will run as Korea's representative in Asia," showing his determination.
Finally, Kwon Hwa-woon, who completed the Big 5 marathon, crossed the finish line in second place. First place was taken by an Australian former athlete who crossed about 30 minutes before Kwon Hwa-woon. Enjoying leisure at the finish line, Kwon Hwa-woon said, "I was so glad just to have competed for the lead with that person," and added, "Every course was joyful."
Kian84 was still in a state of stagnation. Repeatedly rehydrating and vomiting, he said, "I wonder if I'm the first participant to mark territory by vomiting after coming from Africa. If a lion marks territory with urine, I marked territory with vomit."
Describing his own vomiting run as "alien running," Kian84 ran without giving up with the goal of finishing before the 7-hour cut-off.
Finally surpassing 39km, but as time passed the nausea felt even stronger and Kian84 vomited again, muttering, "After throwing up several times. I'm crazy too. I'm going to keep running while vomiting like this?"
Determined to finish no matter what, Kian84 ran without giving up and reached the finish line in 6 hours 38 minutes 54 seconds, succeeding in conquering the Big 5 marathon. In the studio, Lee Eun-ji applauded, saying, "You really overcame the extreme."
Having succeeded in finishing, Kian84 said, "There is a strange emotion. It feels like a foreign English teacher calling me, and no matter how hard it is, when I see myself going out every time there's an inexplicable strange thing. Because of that feeling I think I go out even though it's so hard."
