Group XG member Cocona (COCONA) made a courageous confession on her 20th birthday. She revealed that she is "AFAB transmasculine nonbinary" and opened up about the process of finding her true self.
On the 6th, Cocona wrote on XG's official social media, "As I face the major turning point of turning 20, I wanted to share a story I have kept deep in my heart," and said, "I am AFAB transmasculine nonbinary. I had top surgery this year."
"AFAB transmasculine nonbinary" refers to a person who was designated female at birth but does not define themselves solely as a woman, instead feeling closer to masculinity or forming their identity within that spectrum.
Cocona said, "The hardest thing was recognizing and accepting myself," and added, "Now that I have accepted even a little of myself and moved forward, I was able to open a new door."
In the photos released with the statement, Cocona is shown holding flowers while wearing only a black jacket instead of a top. Scars from her top surgery are visible between the jacket, symbolically showing the sincerity of her declaration.
Cocona said, "I hope this writing becomes a small light for someone," and "I hope it reaches everyone who needs my love," as she confessed the process of accepting herself as she is. She also expressed gratitude to the XG members, executive producer Jakops (SIMON JUNHO PARK), and her parents.
In response, Jakops wrote on his social media, "Today, when Cocona found the courage to share her heart with the world, I truly feel moved and full of respect," and sent a message of support saying, "We will continue to provide sincere support so that all XG members are respected as artists and as human beings."
He added, "I am proud of the music and visuals XG delivers, but the true energy lies in the members' pure hearts and growth," and said, "Since today marks the point when all members have become adults, we are releasing the adult day commemorative photos for this year."
