'Brave Detective4' uncovered the truth hidden behind brutal crimes and exposed the shameless perpetrators.
On the 5th, T-cast E Channel's 'Brave Detective4' (directed by Lee Ji-seon) episode 61 featured Chungju Police Station violent crimes unit chief Detective Jo Ui-sun and former police superintendent Yoon Oe-chul of the scientific investigation unit (KCSI), and Detective Kim Jin-su, who appeared and disclosed investigation logs.
The first case introduced on that broadcast began when an elderly couple was found brutally murdered inside their home. Their eldest son reported that it seemed a robber had broken in, but the parents were found dead in the same room with severe injuries to the head and chest. Because valuables and money remained untouched, the killing appeared to be motivated solely by the act of murder. CCTV captured a mysterious silver SUV heading toward the elderly couple's house in the early morning hours.
The person identified as a suspect was the youngest son, Choi Young-cheol (alias). He had disputes over his parents' property and recently complained to neighbors that his parents planned to give the property to his older brother. He caused disturbances at the bank with his parents by demanding that they read the land and house documents aloud, and he once pushed his father, causing a back injury. Later, he notarized a promissory note relinquishing rights to the house while granting all land such as the bean field to Choi Young-cheol, but it was believed that his fear of losing the estate may have only increased.
Investigators found a silver SUV with its license plate removed in front of his house, and in the passenger seat they found a note that read 'the name the devils gave… Choi Young-cheol.' Arrested four days after the incident, he claimed he did not go to his parents' house and only went to the bean field. But investigators found decisive evidence on CCTV. Footage showed Choi Young-cheol's vehicle turning left from the bean field fork toward his parents' house. Fortunately, a CCTV camera pointed at the parents' front door, and at that time the motion of the front-door sensor turning on and off was recorded. When investigators recreated the movements at a similar speed, the timing matched, and it became evidence that shattered his lies. Also, Choi Young-cheol's son testified that a 50 cm pry bar (metal rod) was missing from the house, which matched the parents' wounds. Bolts and nuts found near the license plate proved intentional removal. The court sentenced Choi Young-cheol to life imprisonment, and he confessed to the crime one year after the incident. Host Kim Sun-young said it was wrong to think the parents' property belonged to him, calling it the property the parents had built up, and said she couldn't believe it in anger.
The case introduced by KCSI that followed involved a rapid investigation from the time of the report, and it was a painful case for the investigative team because the victim had aspired to be a police officer and was a college student. The case began when a middle-aged woman reported her daughter missing and visited the police station with a woman in her 20s who had been drinking with the daughter. The missing person and an acquaintance met around 1 a.m., left the bar around 4:20 a.m., and CCTV showed the missing person leaving intoxicated being supported by a foreign man. Inside the bar, a small-framed man in his 20s tried to make physical contact with the missing person's group, got into an altercation with the foreign man, was kicked out, and was later seen following the group.
The next day, police found the victim's body in a reservoir about an hour away, bearing severe signs of assault over the entire body. Three broken ribs with ruptured lungs and heart were the direct cause of death; signs of strangulation and indications of a sexual crime were also found, but the perpetrator's DNA was not detected. Based on the victim's last movements, investigators tracked a taxi and identified a taxi driver in his 30s. The driver then provided a new statement, asking whether the woman in the news was the college student. He said that immediately after he picked up the victim, a man who claimed to be her 'boyfriend' got into the car and that they drove to the destination the man requested.
The man who claimed to be her boyfriend was the small-framed man in his 20s who had been kicked out of the bar. He moved in another taxi first, then followed the victim, posed as her boyfriend, and dragged her to a motel. Finding no vacant rooms, they moved to another place, and his trail then went cold. On the seventh day after the incident, he reappeared at the bar and was arrested by police. He was 25-year-old public service worker Cho Myung-hun and had a prior record of luring a minor to a motel and assaulting and attempting statutory rape. Cho Myung-hun approached the victim from the start with the intention to rape her, and when they couldn't enter the motel he dragged her to his home, he testified. Further investigation revealed additional crimes: he assaulted, detained and attempted sexual offenses against another woman in her 20s. Throughout the investigation he boasted of his conquests and expected a light sentence, but he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
