Group SEVENTEEN member THE 8 once again presented the result of an artistic challenge.
THE 8 posted an art film for the solo song 'Skyfall (Remix Ver.)' on the team's official YouTube channel at 8:08 p.m. on the 5th. It is content completed as part of the 'THE 8 Contemporary ART' project that expresses and shares his emotions and perspectives as art.
The video intensifies the original song's themes of freedom, falling and liberation through experimental performance and sensory sound. The process of THE 8, who had been trapped within the group, expressing emotions through fierce gestures and dance and ultimately reclaiming his whole self and becoming free is portrayed with sophisticated mise-en-scène.
THE 8 led the overall production of the art film, from video planning to remixing the track and arranging the performance. His creative capabilities built across music, dance and visual art stand out. He also participated in the lyrics and composition of the original song 'Skyfall (The 8 Solo),' revealing new possibilities as an artist.
THE 8 explained the project's intent through PLEDIS Entertainment Co. of HYBE music group, saying, "Through the art film I wanted to be briefly liberated from the world and share the moment of existing as myself with many people."
He said, "I observed what makes other people cry and laugh and with what feelings they live, and I felt that I am not different from them," adding, "But I do not want to be swept along by the world all the time. I believe the moment of existing as oneself is necessary for all of us. I would be grateful if viewers of the video could feel even a little sense of liberation and lightly reflect on their own lives."
The choreography, which blends dance and breaking elements, conveys an energy different from typical K-pop performances. The sound, which boldly reinterprets SEVENTEEN's fifth full-length album track 'Skyfall (The 8 Solo),' is also a highlight of the art film. THE 8 said, "Dance is another language for me. Focusing on expressing the feeling of liberation with the body, I translated the emotions I wanted to express into movement," adding, "I am also very attracted to electronic sound and will continue to challenge it."
Meanwhile, THE 8 continues various attempts through 'THE 8 Contemporary ART.' He previously released art films in this project series that combined contemporary dance with various music, such as the solo song '那幕 (Falling Down)' and '海城 (Hai Cheng),' reinterpreted as an instrumental, earning positive response.
