Comedian Park Narae has been embroiled in allegations of power abuse and, amid a provisional seizure application worth about 100 million won filed by former managers, a senior colleague Yoo Jae-suk's advice to her is being reexamined.
On MBC's variety show Radio Star, which aired in 2016, Park Narae, Yang Se-chan, Jang Doyoun, and Yang Se-hyung appeared in a "Love and War" special.
In that broadcast Park Narae recalled "It was when we were filming Infinite Challenge's 'War of Fools' special. I was the youngest so I waited until the end. But senior Yoo Jae-suk didn't leave and stayed waiting. Even though his own filming was over, he stayed and looked after the remaining performers," she said.
She added that "At that time senior Yoo Jae-suk said, 'Narae, you're doing really well these days, but if you drink you could get into trouble or it could affect your broadcasts, so I really hope you quit drinking,'" she said.
But Park Narae said she asked that senior Yoo Jae-suk "let's have a drink later," but was ultimately turned down. According to Park Narae, Yoo Jae-suk kindly said, "Not drinking later—let's just have a meal sometime."
At the time it was an episode that drew laughter, but because most of Park Narae's current controversy is related to her drinking, Yoo Jae-suk's sincere advice to his junior is being recalled.
Meanwhile, former managers alleged that Park Narae committed workplace harassment, special injury, proxy prescriptions and failure to pay appearance fees. They said she kept managers on call 24 hours for errands like ordering side dishes, cleaning up after parties and forcing them to drink, and even entrusted family matters to them, using them as household help.
Additionally, one manager alleged that because he does not drink he was verbally abused by Park Narae and suffered injuries from a glass thrown in anger. He also said they had to handle personal medical errands such as hospital reservations and proxy prescriptions, and that appearance fee settlements were not made on time.
Regarding this, Park Narae's agency told OSEN that they are "confirming" the related details.
